A new children’s hospital study found that children experiencing toxic levels of stress or trauma are more likely to have a longer-term impact from their COVID experience and require more specialized care.
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago recently polled 1,000 parents across the US, focusing on how parents contextualize the impact of the pandemic on their child’s mental health, what choices they regret making and what they have done to constructively address challenges.
The survey started by asking parents about how they feel the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their children’s mental health. 71% of parents who were surveyed said that the pandemic has taken a toll on the mental health of at least one of their children. When asked about the status of their children’s mental health, 45% of parents said it has stayed the same. 28% said it is getting worse, while 27% said it was actually getting better.
According to Twitter’s
latest performance update, the platform has observed a rise of 12 million more
daily active users, and a 28% YoY increase in revenue for the first quarter of
2021.
In the 4th quarter of 2020, there was a decline
in user activity on Twitter, which has now regained momentum with up to 199
million Monetizable Daily Active Users.
Apparently, Twitter is growing at a steady rate. The social
media company says that the reason behind it is its ongoing improvement in
products, as well as its global conversation around current affairs.
Moreover, international usage on the platform has risen by 22%, with expanded usage in India, despite its recent clash with Indian authorities over attempted censorship. It looks like Twitter is continuing to grow internationally, as well as in the US, and is on a stable path with its business, especially as more brands try to connect with users in different parts of the world.
Ever since the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, social
media has observed a major rise in its usage as people turned to it more than
ever during the lockdowns. Among the social platforms that received the most
attention last year was YouTube, whose viewership jumped from 100 million in
March 2020, to 120 million in December 2020.
It was also revealed that a lot of people prefer watching YouTube on their TV screens. It was found out in December that over a quarter of logged-in YouTube CTV viewers viewed content mostly on their TV screen in the U.S. Moreover, data from the U.S. Census Bureau showed that people in the U.S. spent 791 billion dollars in 2020 on YouTube merely, which is an amount 30% greater as compared to that from 2019. The total CTV ad spending in the U.S. alone was more than 8 billion dollars in 2020.
Last year in particular, a lot of people turned to gaming and
movies as a source of entertainment during the lockdowns. Sensory Tower, a
company that provides insights into the global app economy shared statistics of
the top-most downloaded and grossing games between January 2020 and January 2021.
The games that made it to the list included Join Clash 3D as
the number one most downloaded game. It is produced by Supersonic Studios and
had about 27 million downloads. The game was most commonly installed in India
and Indonesia.
Among Us made it to the list as the second most downloaded
game, although it observed a drop in downloads rate by 83 million since
September. It was downloaded the most in the US and Brazil.
Rest of the games that were included in the top 5 category
were DOP 2 and Sushi Roll 3D from Say Games, and Project Makeover from
Bubblegum Games.
Pinterest recently shared its performance update that shows
a noticeable increase in its revenue, as well as steady growth in terms of
usage of the platform. The company has managed to add 124 million new users
overall.
When compared to the previous quarter, Pinterest has been
able to maintain its growth momentum, which highlights its continuous progress.
Moreover, internationally, the platform has grown by 46%. More specifically,
Pinterest’s growth relies mostly on its users in the US, but the company is
still trying to adequately monetize its international audience.
