Google’s cell service Google Fi is being rebranded to “Google Fi Wireless” and bringing several new features for users. The most significant update is that Google Fi Wireless plans will now support Samsung’s Watch 5, along with the Pixel Watch.

What’s more is that the support for smartwatch, which was previously only limited to Google Fi’s Unlimited Plus and Flexible plans, is now being expanded to the Simply Unlimited plan. The feature will be available on all these plans with no additional charges. Despite the smartwatch support addition to the Simply Unlimited plan, the subscription price of the plan mostly remains the same, which is $80 a month for the two-to-four-line package. The plan originally offers 5GB of hotspot tethering and unlimited data, calls, and texts within the US, Canada, and Mexico. Pricing of the three-line package has, however, increased by $5 for a month.

Reverse engineers Simon Aaarons and David Buchanan discovered a security flaw within the Google Pixel’s default screenshot editing tool ‘Markup’, which has been found to have first appeared five years back when the tool was first launched. The bug, which has been named “aCropalypse,” has caused screenshot images to become partially “unedited,” which has also resulted in hidden personal information being exposed online.

According to Aaarons and Buchanan, the occurrence of the flaw was possible because Markup doesn’t delete the original versions of the screenshots and saves them in the same file location as the edited ones. Moreover, if the edited screenshot file is smaller than the original, it causes the trailing portion of the original file being left behind, after the new file is supposed to have ended.

HMD has partnered with iFixit, a repair specialist company, to create smartphone repairs including necessary replacement parts like display screen, battery, and charging port, along with repair guides for its customers. This service is specifically available for the new Nokia G22 to facilitate a greater lifetime of the phone.

Other big tech companies including Samsung and Google have also previously collaborated with iFixit to provide customers with easily available replacement parts of their products.

The process of self-repairing the Nokia G22 is not as simple, but also less complicated and time consuming than a battery swap on the previous-generation HMD phones. While demonstrating the process, head of product at HMD Adam Ferguson, spent about 5 minutes carefully opening the Nokia G22 and removing its delicate cable inside to swap the battery.

South Korean news site Naver has reported that Samsung could be adding a significant design update to its upcoming phone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The design change is thought to include a droplet-style hinge that would contribute to a much less noticeable crease in the phone when it folds, as well as lesser stress on the display.

Currently, the crease design in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 phones is a U-shaped hinge, because of which the crease appears sharper and prominent.

Although Samsung is a leading Android mobile phone company and even proposed the droplet hinge design way back in 2016, competitors of the company like Oppo and Motorola have already resolved the sharp crease issue using the droplet-style hinge. It is speculated that Samsung held back from taking the initiative as a marketing strategy - perhaps the company wanted to wait till it brought out the water resistance feature that was first introduced to its third-gen folding devices in 2021, and then launch it with the droplet-shaped hinge. This would make its new devices stand out against Oppo and Motorola’s.
