Ukrainian Refugees Return Home Despite several Warnings from Officials


Despite the ongoing intense war in Ukraine, more than 6 million people have returned back to their home, according to the latest figures by the International Organization for Migration (IMO). Since IMO records began on April 17, there has been a sound increase of people making the journey, whether from abroad or from other parts of the country. According to the figures provided by latest surveys, around 16 percent of returnees were people aged 60 and older, 57 percent of them were females and 25 percent were infants or children under 17 years.

Countries where Afghans seek refuge

By the end of 2020, around 2.6 million Afghan refugees who hadn’t yet completed or entered the asylum process were reported by The UNHCR. The infographic below shows the top spots for these people where they seek refuge. According to the chart, around 85 percent of these people find their refuge in the country’s neighborhood i.e., Pakistan and Iran with 14,38,000 in Pakistan and 780,000 in Iran.

Followed by Germany on the third, around 148,000 Afghans are settled there. In Europe, the major destinations for these Afghan refugees include Sweden, France, and Austria. As per the report shared by the European Union, in the first quarter of 2021, around 7,000 Afghans were granted temporary or permanent legal status in the European Union.
