How did the Facebook and Instagram video advertising evolve?

People are more and more attracted to the video formats of advertising especially the short video forms such as reels, stories and feeds rather than the longer forms i.e., IGTV, Facebook Watch, and Live. Research from Ipsos reveals that the best and most efficient way to connect to various brands is through Facebook and Instagram video ads, as cited by the video viewers.

The social media giant, Facebook announced that the company is testing out some new options for topic targeting within Facebook In-Stream video, moreover, the Facebook Stories ads and Instagram Reels ads are also being tested in order to enhance audience engagement and provide better opportunities to different brands.
 


Reportedly, more than 2 billion people on Facebook watch In-Stream videos every month, and therefore, around 70 percent of video ads views on In-Stream alone are completed. This is the top reason why Facebook is offering better advertising options within the In-Stream videos.

Facebook is allowing academic researchers to access political advertisement data through its platform, so they can provide their input in terms of identifying flaws and discrepancies related to elections, so as to contribute to the transparency of elections.

 

Facebook is allowing access to over 1.3 billion political ads that have been published through its platform in the past three months. The social media company has an Open Research and Transparency platform where researchers will be required to apply if they wish to collect advertisement data through Facebook.

Facebook gives its users the option to “hide ads” displayed on their Feed and in return asks for the reason to hide an ad. Social media expert Matt Navarra reported that Facebook is now asking additional questions when a user chooses to hide an ad.

 

The newly added options that Facebook is giving users to know their reasons behind hiding a particular ad include: Too personal, Repetitive, Sensitive Topic, and Knows too much.

To restrict the spread of post-election misinformation, Facebook is planning to put an end to political advertising as revealed by a source who was in direct discussion with the company.


According to the anonymous source, Facebook has spoken to experts about potential election scenarios, including the possibility of Donald Trump using the platform to dispute election results. 


It was reported by the New York Times that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and some company executives had daily meetings to discuss ways to tackle election dispute caused by the platforms. They also considered the option of completely eliminating political ads since the November 3rd elections. 


Although Facebook hasn't provided details on the matter, spokesman Andy Stone mentioned in a statement that the company is considering ''a range of political advertising options during the closing period of the election.''.

Facebook Bans Ads Seeking to Gain Profit From Corona Virus Fears

Facebook has started to put a ban on all Ads that intend to profit from the fear of the Corona virus.

According to Business Insider, Facebook has announced that it will restrict ads from all it's platforms that intend to "create a sense of urgency" among the audience for their gain.

People have been seeing such ads in some parts of the world that Facebook has observed, are ran to capitalize on the growing fear.

"We recently implemented a policy to prohibit ads that refer to the coronavirus and create a sense of urgency, like implying a limited supply, or guaranteeing a cure or prevention. We also have policies for surfaces like Marketplace that prohibit similar behavior,” announced Facebook.

This goes to show that Facebook is playing it's part to avoid the spread of any misinformation regarding the virus. Only recently the company had announced that it aims to enhance it's methods of fact checking and also been dedicated to remove any false information that may harm people.

Many sites have been gathering all the false information regarding the spread of Corona virus which involve suggesting remedies that don't work and any misinformation about it's causes.

Currently, there are over 79 thousand people who are affected around the world and about 2,600 have reportedly passed away from the outbreak in a few months. And although, efforts are being made to have it under control, panic among people is still on the rise.


Provided all of this, it gives all those ethically corrupt, to use it as a commercial gain. The step taken by Facebook is worth an applause but because people are still on the edge, the platform might be required to do more in this matter.
