CEO of Ford Jim Farley has revealed that the company developed a “skunkworks” lab two years ago – a start-up separate from the Ford mothership, which is aimed at producing electric vehicles at affordable prices. The lab’s team is being led by Alan Clarke, executive director of advanced EV development at Ford.

In 2023, Ford reported a loss of $1.6 billion and announced that it would reduce its expenditure on EVs, so it could fulfil customers’ needs in a better way. However, the current news of Ford’s experimentations with low-cost EVs suggests that the company is still adamant on competing with Tesla and other EV automakers like BYD.

The Adoption of Electric Vehicles

Transportation has come a long way and when we really think of it, there's a long history behind it too. There used to be a time when the only way to get from one point to another was via horses or other animals, or in the case of no animals, it was by foot. Let's first take a sneak peek inside the history of transportation.

But we can think of the invention of the wheel as the ultimate turning point. As per archaeological evidence, the wheel has known to be invented by Mesopotamia for the purpose of making pottery. But like everything, the wheel's purpose saw variation and reinvention over time. For instance, we have chariots in the records all the way from the times of the ancient Greek civilisation. So the tyres we have today have reached to us thanks to the experiments and inventions of our great ancestors.
