These Vehicles Are Vulnerable to Theft #infographic
There are a few reasons one vehicle might be more vulnerable to theft than others. Leaving a vehicle in a poorly lit place emboldens thieves. Luxury cars or cars with parts in high demand are targeted for their resale value. Older cars or cars with weak security stand out to thieves on the hunt for vehicles. Even social media trends and tips leave certain models more vulnerable to theft. Knowing the risks can help vehicle owners take precautions, so the team at Convoy Car Shipping crunched the data and determined which vehicles are most at risk based on the number of thefts per model in 2023. They even mapped out the most stolen model in each state.

Amidst its ongoing financial struggles, Tesla is reducing the subscription fee for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) driver-assist software. The fee has been cut down from $199 a month to $99 a month.

The FSD is Tesla’s level 2 driver-assist system, that the company describes as FSD (Supervised), emphasizing that the drivers are required to pay attention to the road and stand ready to take control of the vehicle. This is because Tesla has been criticized for not incorporating proper driver monitoring and other safety measures to counter overreliance on the system.

While the FSD was available as a $99 monthly subscription to owners who already have Autopilot, Tesla now offers Autopilot as standard on all new car purchases, which cancels the need for the price variance. The company has recently also started to promote a one-month free trial of FSD, as a way of attracting more customers to the subscription.

CEO of Ford Jim Farley has revealed that the company developed a “skunkworks” lab two years ago – a start-up separate from the Ford mothership, which is aimed at producing electric vehicles at affordable prices. The lab’s team is being led by Alan Clarke, executive director of advanced EV development at Ford.

In 2023, Ford reported a loss of $1.6 billion and announced that it would reduce its expenditure on EVs, so it could fulfil customers’ needs in a better way. However, the current news of Ford’s experimentations with low-cost EVs suggests that the company is still adamant on competing with Tesla and other EV automakers like BYD.

Tesla Announces Unbeatable Profit Margins

Tesla made quite a surprising announcement in January this year, that it would be cutting prices on its vehicles by as much as 20%.

Even though price cuts are not new in the automotive world, they surely are for Tesla. The company, which generally has been unable to keep up with demand, has seen its order backlog shrink from 476,000 units in July 2022, to 74,000 in December 2022.

This has been attributed to robust production growth of Tesla, which saw 2022 production increase 41% over 2021 (from 930,422 to 1,313,851 units).

Apparently, the days of “endless” demand of Tesla are over, Tesla is going on the offensive by reducing its prices. This is a step that puts pressure on competitors, but has also annoyed existing owners of this brand.
