In a latest report by LinkedIn titled ‘Future of Work’, the
company has shared insights and data on the impact of AI on different
industries, as well as the advancing AI initiatives that LinkedIn is preparing
to bring to its platform.
The report consists findings on the following topics: “Professionals’
conversations and sentiments towards AI,” ‘”Generative AI (GAI) by education,
generation, and gender,” and “LinkedIn’s AI-assisted products will create more
value for members and customers.”
LinkedIn has observed a 70% increase in conversations around
AI on its platform, between December 2022 and September 2023. Around the world,
members on the platform have been specifically having discussions around terms
like “ChatGPT,” “Prompt Engineering,” “Prompt Crafting,” “Microsoft Copilot,”
and “Generative Artificial Intelligence.” LinkedIn has further provided a percentage-breakdown
of different populations that are driving these conversations.
Additionally, LinkedIn reports that 55% of its users “globally stand to see their jobs change to some degree by the rise of generative AI,” which highlights the impact of LinkedIn’s generative AI on the work industry.

Google Workspace update has introduced an improved option of adding alt text to
an image. Currently, the option is accessible from a right-click menu. As a result of the
accessibility improvement, users will be able to access the option from the ‘image
options sidebar’ within Google Workspace documents.
Google is making the process of searching the most relevant
emails in your Gmail inbox easier. The company has utilized machine learning to
show users ‘top results’ when they search for an email in the app.
The results, according to Google, will be the most relevant
to a user’s search. “We’re introducing a feature that helps you find exactly
what you’re looking for with less effort,” explains the company in a recent
blogpost.
To get search results that best match your query on Gmail, you simply need to type in relevant keywords in the search bar. The results will appear in a separate section named ‘top results’ at the top of the list, followed by results listed from most recent to oldest. Hopefully, the feature will resolve the problem of having trouble finding specific emails or files more quickly.
Although it may appear that participation of women in the labor force has increased significantly in recent times, but that is not the case – at least not at the global level. Even though the labor force participation rate for women aged 25-54 has undeniably increased from 67 percent in 1990 to 77 percent in 2021 in high-income countries, situation looks quite differently in all other income groups. According to estimates from the International Labour Organization (ILO), only 61.4 percent of women in prime working age were either employed or actively seeking employment globally in 2022, which is actually a small decline from 62.8 percent in 1990.
LinkedIn is launching a new verification system to enable
users to verify their identity and workplace, and obtain free of cost digital
workplace IDs as a result. Necessary information is collected through a user’s
company-issued email address, CLEAR, or Microsoft’s Entra verified ID platform.
All verifications are represented with a green and blue check on users’ profiles. Moreover, if a user verifies their ID via CLEAR, then they can display the verification on their LinkedIn profile, authenticated by a US government-issued ID and US phone number.
The reason behind setting up a limit of minimum wage is to
set a baseline income level for workers in a particular jurisdiction. Ideally the
amount is enough to cover basic needs like housing and food, but it is not
always guaranteed.

Microsoft has released a preview of its new collaborative
hub ‘Loop’ that makes it possible to manage all the Office apps from one place.
It can be used to initiate and organize various tasks, projects, and documents,
and even share them in the form of editable blocks in other Microsoft platforms
like Teams, Outlook, Word (web version), and Whiteboard.
Loop allows up to 50 people to edit a document at once. Its project
and task management features are quite handy, such as progress trackers, custom
labels, syncing tools, the option to link up suggested files or tag co-workers
or friends, and more.
In addition to that, Microsoft will be bringing its 365 Copilot system to Loop, that uses AI to generate ideas and suggestions. In Loop, the chatbot will also support multiplayer mode, enabling multiple people to ask questions to it.
Ever since ChatGPT became a popular integration, Google
has been making efforts to catch up with other companies in the AI race. Recently,
the company has announced new AI features for its Workspace apps, designed to
help generate and brainstorm text, and draft and summarize emails, among other
functions.
These features seem to be the most useful for Gmail and Google
Docs. They can assist users in drafting, replying to, summarizing, and
prioritizing emails, and brainstorming, proofreading, writing, and rewriting
text in Docs.
LinkedIn is providing new visual elements in the Activity section starting from the next few weeks. As a result, users can display their activities in the form of images, videos, and articles in a more aesthetically pleasing and engaging format. This could also lead to improved opportunities for professional connections.
Microsoft 365 Basic, which is set to launch globally by the end
of this month, is Microsoft’s latest subscription package. The offering has
been essentially designed to replace the 100GB OneDrive storage program, and
also contains additional features but at the same price i.e., $1.99. Once the new
subscription is released, customers of the OneDrive 100GB storage will be
automatically upgraded to it.
The features included in Microsoft 365 Basic are: 100GB of cloud storage, ad-free Outlook web and mobile experience, Personal Vault, data encryption for Outlook mailbox, suspicious link checking, expiring links, and ransomware scanning and recovery. In addition to that, the offering provides access to Microsoft technical support that users can rely on for help via phone call or online chat on both Microsoft 365 apps and Windows 11.
Small Business Saturday has become an essential part of the
holiday shopping season in the Unites States. This idea was originally
conceived by American Express in 2010 and is officially cosponsored by the
Small Business Administration since 2011. It was found to support independent
and local businesses who have a hard time in competing with large businesses on
Black Friday or Cyber Monday. According to estimates from American Express, the
amount of Small Business Saturday spending at independent retailers and
restaurants was approximately $23.3 billion last year.
LinkedIn has started a new conversation around the changing
work environment and people’s adjustments to the new ‘work from home’ setting,
through its latest promotional campaign.
LinkedIn is examining the changes in work environment and is
giving people a chance to express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns
regarding the new shift. As stated by the company, “It’s a change in not just
how we work, but why we work and a shift in how people are making work, work
for them. With this comes a change in how the world is defining what being
“professional” really means - and we want to hear what it means to you.”
The company has released an ad of the campaign that talks about “what being professional is” and shows how different people in their career have been professional in ways that have become the new norm of professionalism, ever since the pandemic. The company is also working on additional ways of promoting the campaign through different media, so it can spread the stories and messages of people in relation to it.
Since the past year, Google has made quite some changes to its
office and communications software suite, Workspace. One of these changes includes
a major one that the company recently announced, which is the redesigning of
Gmail.
The redesigning of Gmail includes the option to “ring” a
person with Google Meet, within the Gmail app. This means that users will be
able to use Gmail for placing calls, and according to Google, the feature will
come to the Meet app in the future too.
By placing greater emphasis on Gmail, Google seems to be
showing how important of a service it is when it comes to the company’s Workspace.
In a way, Gmail is now Google’s equivalent to Microsoft’s Outlook, as it has
become a hub for multiple services like email, one-on-one chats, group chats,
videoconferencing, and even calls now.
Google is also making it easier to find Spaces, Gmail’s group chat feature, by allowing users to search for it as an option, and also adding full support for threaded messages.
Employees at Apple are not happy with the company’s new work
policy, that requires them to return to the office three days a week starting
in early September. In opposition to the policy, the employees are demanding a
flexible approach, so that only those who want to work remote are allowed to do
so.
The employees wrote a letter to the company where they addressed their concerns, saying that some of their colleagues have already quitted due to the conversation around Apple’s new policy. “Without the inclusivity that flexibility brings, many of us feel we have to choose between either a combination of our families, our well-being, and being empowered to do our best work, or being a part of Apple,” the letter read.
