WhatsApp has been working on new text formatting options that it has just launched to all its users on Android, iOS, Web, and Mac.

Until now, the formatting options that have been available to WhatsApp users are bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace. In addition to these, the four newly added ones include bulleted and numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code. These are meant to facilitate improved communication among users by enabling them to organize and emphasize specific information.

WhatsApp has rolled out a new messaging option that enables users to send video messages to one another. These video messages will be 60 seconds long at maximum and appear in circles within chats. Describing the functionality, WhatsApp says that it is “a real-time way to respond to chats with whatever you want to say and show in 60 seconds.”

Users will be able to record their video messages by switching to video mode, then holding to record the video. Like audio messages, video messages can also be recorded hands-free by swiping up and locking to record. WhatsApp ensures that video messages will be kept safe and secure in chats as they are end-to-end encrypted.

A latest announcement from Meta has revealed that WhatsApp is officially rolling out to Wear OS smartwatches. The news of a potential launch was first shared at the Google I/O event and on Facebook by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg back in May.

On their Wear OS smartwatch, users will be able to start new WhatsApp conversations, reply to messages, and take calls, all within the little screen on their smartwatch. Additionally, options to respond with voice messages, emoji, regular text, and quick replies will be available too. Particularly on the Wear OS 3 smartwatch, users will be able to respond to messages without even having their phone nearby.

In an attempt to further build on engagement using its avatar feature, Meta has launched a new functionality that allows users to appear on video calls as their avatar characters, on Instagram and Messenger.

“Sometimes, we’re just not camera-ready,” says Meta explaining how using your Meta avatar in place of your own video can be a great way to interact on video calls without having to worry about your appearance. The avatars on video calls will work by responding to and following users’ facial moves.

To help users understand the purpose and usage of all the security and safety tools in the app in one place and enhance their in-app experience, WhatsApp has created a new Security Hub mini site. The hub provides an overview of WhatsApp’s default safety and security features, as well as control options that significantly contribute to users’ account and data security.

Some of WhatsApp’s integral security features include default privacy, automatic spam detection, and proactive security alerts.

The mini site educates users on how to avoid scamming, spamming, and malicious acts like data theft that commonly occur across the platform. “Malicious actors and hostile states routinely challenge the security of our critical infrastructure,” says the company.

WhatsApp is beta-testing screen sharing, a username feature, and a new business feature for the platform. The features have been spotted in the beta version of the app.

It looks like WhatsApp is introducing a username feature in the app, which means that every user will be able to create their own username in the app that will be linked to their account. Similarly, people will be able to search each other with usernames, even if they don’t have the contact number of the user they want to search.

There is not much information available on this feature, since it is still in development. However, according to a preview shared by WABetaInfo, the option to set up a username will be located in a dedicated section of ‘Profile’ within WhatsApp Settings.

WhatsApp has released yet another practical option in the app – it allows users to edit their messages after having sent them in a chat.

While the app already has a ‘delete message’ functionality for times when you make an error in your sent message, the edit tool will make the ability to make corrections easier.

There is, however, a time limit on editing sent messages, so users will have only 15 minutes in case they want to make changes to their text.

WhatsApp is adding a new privacy feature for chats that allows users to “lock” chats that they want to keep private by keeping them in folders protected via a password or biometric verification.

Moroever, notifications received by the recipient from locked chats won’t show the name of the sender or message content, hence maintaining the privacy. The feature can be worthy especially when your phone is unlocked and with someone else. It will keep your chats extra secure.

Meta’s latest messaging functionality ‘Channels’ was first launched to Instagram, and is now being expanded to WhatsApp. The feature provides the ability for users in a group to be updated on topics of shared interest.

We have been observing that Meta has lately begun to put more focus on private messaging than interactions within main feeds. This has also made it possible for brands and customers to have more personal interactions between them on Meta’s platforms, which contributes to the growth of businesses.

Meta’s New Chat Feature ‘Channels’ is Coming to WhatsApp

Meta is bringing two new features to WhatsApp as part of its Community tab: one that provides better privacy to community group chats, and another that makes it easier to find groups that users have in common.

Community group chat is a relatively new element in WhatsApp that was launched last year. Its purpose is to house multiple sub-groups of larger groups like organizations and schools, and it can hold up to 5,000 users, support video calls for up to 32 participants, and enable group-wide admin announcements.

WhatsApp’s Latest Features for Community Chats Improve Group Privacy and the Ability to Search for Groups

Meta has been experimenting with ways to facilitate businesses on WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app in the world right now, among which is a new update that allows searching for businesses by name or category directly in the app.

The business search tool will consist of a mini map to help users locate the business they’re looking for, as well as other nearby businesses. The category filters, along with indications of verified business accounts will add to the feasibility of the process.

Meta has also clarified that the businesses that users search for will not be linked back to their accounts. Moreover, the process will preserve users’ privacy. “To start, we’re bringing the ability to search for a business to Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and the UK where people can find companies using our WhatsApp Business Platform. In Brazil, search will help people find small businesses as well,” states Meta.

WhatsApp has released a new engagement feature for group chats called Communities, which is aimed to create organized conversations between multiple groups.

WhatsApp users will be able to connect groups under one common and relevant topic, and switch between these groups in the Community. A description and list of subgroups will be displayed in the Community.

Twitter is expanding Tweet sharing beyond its own platform by testing a new WhatsApp sharing button exclusively in India, and enabling Tweet sharing to Snapchat and IG Stories on Android, which was previously only available on iOS, as well as launching a new option to share Tweets to LinkedIn.

WhatsApp remains the most popular messaging app in India, with over 487 million users, which explains Twitter’s initiative to test the new WhatsApp sharing button in India in particular. Twitter explains the test, saying, “We are replacing the share icon on Tweets with the WhatsApp icon for the majority of people who use Twitter on Android in the country, so sharing their favorite or noteworthy Tweets is easy even beyond Twitter, making the experience more open, accessible, and holistic for them.”

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature where users’ profile pictures appear in notifications. The feature is rolling out for iOS devices for now and is part of the  2.22.1.1 beta version of the app. However, only limited users can see profile pictures in notifications, as WhatsApp is still testing the feature.

When you receive a notification from a single contact or group chat, the profile picture of the sender will appear in the notification.

WhatsApp is lately working on a new feature that enables users to edit their recipients list before sending media to contacts and groups.

By editing the recipients list, users can choose their recipients to send media content to. Additionally, changing recipient settings for chats may also be applied for Status update.

WhatsApp adds Sticker Store to its web interface

Stickers are a great way to express yourself in a conversation. These can be used for expressing emotions, cheering up the mood, or keeping the chat full of fun. Users can share stickers from a wide range available in the mobile app and even download new ones from the Sticker Store within the app and that too, for free.

When it comes to the web interface, the tech giant is seen to not keep it updated for quite a while. Uses have now become used-to of the same interface on the web with now frequent updates. Luckily, the company finally managed to take some time out and took at least one thing about the web interface into consideration i.e., availability of new Stickers.

WhatsApp will soon release two new updates for its users

Being one of the most widely used communication mediums, WhatsApp keeps on adding new updates frequently to offer the users an improved experience. Up till now, there has been no such feature integrated by the company which users didn’t appreciate because, with every new update, the app just gets even better.

Having that said, the company is now all set to roll out two new features for its users regarding audio messages and improved message-deleting options. Since the company has always brought the best updates, the hopes for these two new features are pretty high.

Everyone has some people on their contact list who send longer voice notes and audio messages that seem dreadful to listen to just because of their length. Sometimes these voice messages are pretty important to listen but you lack enough time.

Thankfully, WhatsApp took this matter into consideration and has rolled out an update where you can fast-forward the voice notes from 0.5x to 2x speed. Now, the company is doing the same for audio messages as well.

Audio messages are simply the forwarded voice notes from one chat to another. Currently, this new update is being tested out and is in its beta version so, we can expect it to be rolled out anytime soon.

WhatsApp’s latest multi-device feature is causing a problem for some users and group admins with accessing older messages when using the app on a device other than their smart phone. It is assumed that the company is likely assuring security in this way, so that users can access older conversations only if they are using the app on their phones.

The multi-device feature is a valuable addition, as it provides an easier way for sharing information like large documents and files across multiple devices. The feature is especially useful for those whose work is mostly desktop-intensive.
