Since the Japanese population is aging quickly, the Japanese government is feeling the need to bring in talent from abroad.

Busiest Airports in the World, by Passenger Count

Airports can be the most crowded and stressful places in the world because of the slow-moving queues and bustling gates. Regardless of the negative aspects associated with commercial air travel, on a general note, it is an impressive system, with the biggest air transit hubs recording passenger traffic numbers that rival the populations of large countries.

The Infographic used here has data from Airports Council International (ACI) to rank the top 10 busiest airports in the world, looking at total passengers enplaned and deplaned, with passengers in transit counted once.

Attitude of Countries towards Russia

Although most of Europe and North America condemns Russia because of its war in Ukraine, as far as politics goes, it is not a worldwide stance. Current analysis by the Economist Intelligence Unit has revealed that there is a slow growth in Russia’s support base in a few parts of the world. The number of countries leaning towards Russia has increased from 29 in 2022 to 35 in 2023. On the contrary, the number of countries either actively condemning Russia or West-leaning is still so far, the bigger group, but its figures have dropped from 131 to 122. The EIU says this fall is partly driven by the shift of a number of emerging economies into a more neutral position.

Community Notes on Twitter have become an important part of the platform in terms of moderating the information that is shared by users. What makes the process great is that users are directly involved in providing context to the content shared, so as to limit the spread of misinformation.

Twitter has recently updated Notes with a new option that requires contributors to first rate other Notes as helpful and unhelpful before writing their own. “To unlock the ability to write, new contributors need to earn a Rating Impact of at least 5,” explains Twitter.

When a contributor rates a note before it has reached a status, it helps increase the ‘rating impact,’ whereas the impact decreases upon the contributor’s rating after the note reaches a status.

Twitter advises contributors to look for and rate notes that need more ratings. “The best ways to do this are by browsing the ’Needs Your Help’ tab in Community Notes, and by looking out for alerts when a note needs your rating,” the social company adds.

The amount spent on global investment in research and development (R&D) has tripled to $2.4 trillion since 2000.

R&D plays an important role in a country’s economic growth and innovation and impacts nearly every corner of the society either in a direct or indirect manner. From public health and job creation to industrial competitiveness and national security, R&D has a role to play.

Other key elements that play an important role in driving progress and innovation, along with R&D include scientific research, technological adoption, and venture capital activity, to name a few.

Meta and TikTok are under scrutiny for approving ads that contain political misinformation, ahead of the US midterm elections. Global Witness, a human rights organization, along with the Cybersecurity for Democracy team at NYU has found the social media platforms to have gone against their own ad policies.

The investigation report stated that the misinformation was mostly related to voting procedures, that could potentially convince people to refrain from casting their votes. The report further mentioned the number of ads that were found to be misleading; with Facebook approving two of the ads in English and five in Spanish, and TikTok approving nearly all of the ads. YouTube however was found to be complying with its ad policies, since the company had blocked all of the misinformative ads from running, while also banning the originating accounts involved in the submission of the ads.

Global Witness further revealed that it had carried out a similar experiment in Brazil, where it found 100% of the election disinformation ads being approved by Facebook. On top of that, after Meta was made aware of the situation, it still proceeded to review 20-50% of the ads. YouTube too, contrary to its performance in the US, was found to be approving 100% of the disinformation ads in Brazil.

Meta, YouTube, and TikTok Inspected for Approving Ads Containing Political Misinformation

Twitter has reported an unfortunate error in its security systems that occurred back in January of 2022, as a result of which, an important piece of users’ private information had leaked and was sold online by hackers. This information was about whether a phone number or email address was connected to an existing Twitter account.

Twitter explained, “As a result of the vulnerability, if someone submitted an email address or phone number to Twitter’s systems, Twitter’s systems would tell the person what Twitter account the submitted email addresses or phone number was associated with, if any.” The company further assured users that it had looked into and fixed the issue right after learning about it.
