The Number of Foreign Workers in Japan Increase Fourfold Since 2008

After many years of slow growth in the number of foreign workers migrating to Japan, Japan has increased its efforts to attract new foreign workers in the past couple of years. The number of foreigners working in Japan has reached a new high of more than 1.8 million in 2022. Since the Japanese population is aging quickly, the Japanese government is feeling the need to bring in talent from abroad.

International Migration Trends

In 2020 the number of migrants has quadrupled since 1960, with 3.6% of the world’s population living outside of their country of origin. In just the last decade, nearly 60 million people have become migrants. There are numerous reasons for this, including labour and family migration. This graph shows that the number of migrants is increasing year on year and there is no evidence to suggest that is going to change any time soon.

The state of immigrations in many countries

With the rise of coronavirus, the global travelling rate has succumbed to very low figures. At first, the travelling was dreaded because of the risks it posed. To this day, it still remains but the restriction is somewhat uplifted. Many people, who were visiting or touring abroad, were forcefully sent back to their homelands to ensure the safety.

Among all this, the immigration process took some toll. People waiting for their immigration were left in the dry with no further dates. The world of today has become less accepting of migrants than any other time in the recent history. There are still some countries who are opening their doors for the migrants to live and prosper but, on the other hand, countries are completely shutting their doors down for the newcomers.

State By State Migration
How many times in your life have you moved to a different state or another country? Temporary or permanently? Can you imagine that this very moment, while you are sitting at your computer desk and chilling with a cup of coffee, thousands and thousands of people move across the country, in and out of the country, or are getting ready to move in one of those directions? It can be hard to see the whole picture, which is this graphic is about, showing how many people each state lost and gained over the previous two years.

The number of international migrants, people living out side of their country of birth or citizenship, reached an all-time high of 232 million in 2013. The number of migrants is likely to continue increasing because of demographic and economic inequalities between countries, and revolutions in communications and transportation that enable migrants to learn about opportunities abroad and travel to take advantage of them.
