AT&T plans to launch a new call screening service that enables businesses to make “branded calls.” This means that if a business signs up for the service, then a call that it makes to any AT&T user will show the receiver the name and logo of the business. 

 


The service is called “TruContact Branded Call Display” and it is available via credit reporting firm TransUnion. The technology is based on the STIR/SHAKEN protocol, which ensures that a number hasn’t been illegally hoaxed.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently issued a ban on some of China’s leading surveillance and telecom services, including Huawei, ZTE Corp, Dahua, Hytera, and Hikvision among others, that can no longer sell their telecom and video surveillance equipment the US.

The New York Stock Exchange delisted three of China’s telecom firms, after Washington claimed that the firms had ties with the Chinese military. China’s Commerce Ministry has responded to the situation, saying that it will take necessary measures to protect the interests of its companies.

 

The targeted Chinese firms include China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. Former US President Donald Trump had ordered to bar U.S. investment in 31 firms back in November, all of which according to Washington, are either owned or controlled by the Chinese military.

PTA decides to lift the ban from TikTok

Ten days ago, one of the most popular social media app TikTok was blocked in Pakistan by the country’s telecommunication authorities because of the spread of indecent videos. However, as per the authorities, TikTok has promised to suspend every account that creates and makes such immoral videos viral over the internet. Not to forget, the company failed to ban such accounts in the first place, resulting in shutting off the app completely nationwide. 

A spokesperson from Pakistan Telecommunication Authorities said that TikTok had more than 20 million active users monthly from Pakistan only. Furthermore, an analytic company SensorTower confirmed that TikTok was listed as the third-most downloaded app in Pakistan prior to the ban led by WhatsApp and Facebook in the first and second places.
