The current leader of the 5G patent race

Now that the fifth-generation technology for telecommunication companies have started to pave its way into the industry, several broadband competitors are trying hard to lead the 5G patent race. However, according to the infographic, the current leader of the 5G patent race is the Chinese manufacturer Huawei.

A lot of you might be wondering how are the companies determined to be leading this race? This question has a very straightforward answer i.e., the more the number of 5G patents owned by a company, the higher its rank would be. Now as per the analysis of IPlytics, Huawei has been granted over 15% of active patents.

iPhone 12 declared as the best 5G model in the world

Apple launched new iPhone models, including iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, on 23rd October 2020; the launch was supposed to happen earlier but was delayed due to some reasons. There were only two weeks of sales in that month, which were enough to declare the iPhone 12 as the best 5G model in the entire world, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro as the second best. The infographic shows the 5G models sales in October 2020, and iPhone 12 tops the list with a total of 16% sales in just two weeks. Before iPhone 12, Samsung Galaxy 20 Ultra 5G was the world’s best 5G model.

The U.K. government planned to phase out the Huawei 5G technology and as part of that plan, it is banning the installation of the new Huawei 5G equipment from September of next year. The government announced back in July that it would be barring firms from buying new equipment form Huawei starting from January 2021, due to the national security concerns revolving around the Chinese tech company.

This means that any telecoms companies that have stockpiled Huawei equipment ahead of January 2021 will not be able to use them for long-term 5G rollouts. Reports suggest that several companies have been stockpiling the equipment since summer. However, firms possessing old Huawei equipment will still be able to maintain it after September.

On the other hand, matters of the ban enforcement and the laws regarding it will be set by a new legislation in the Parliament this week. Furthermore, telecoms companies could be fined up to 10 percent of turnover or £100,000 per day if they fail to comply with the new security standards, according to the Telecommunications Security Bill requirements.

What Industries Will 5G Disturb?

The evolution of mobile technology has come to the point that the entire world has its eyes on the new 5G services becoming available soon. It's not only a revolution for the technology and mobile industry, but it will affect many other industries in a number of ways. Similarly, there have been a few controversies revolving around 5G technology too.

The industries that will be disturbed the most are automotive and cloud services. Due to its advanced nature, downloading and uploading speeds have been rapidly increased by 5G. Although it is decreasing latency times, which can cause a stir in applications in which time is a critical component.

Digital cities and the digital future

Internet of Things (IoT) have been a very important innovation for us. With automation being promoted everywhere, it is assumed that in a short while, everything will be automated just like those science fiction movies. We have automated, self-driving cars today, even our homes are automated. However, with such technology, we are now looking at deployment of IoT on a bigger scale, such as a whole city.

As cities are growing, the implementation of IoT and edge computing technologies can grow to be more useful in maintaining public order and a safe environment. Technology can also provide a way to improve effectiveness and efficiency of public and emergency services without major expenditure. By 2050 7.5 billion people are expected to reside in the cities – this number is the amount of people living in the world today.

The 5G revolution and what changes it will bring

5G internet is the next big thing for the internet. The comparison between 4G and 5G is striking and never has any other generation seen such spikes in internet speed and performance difference. 5G is noticeably faster than 4G but the market for 5G is still very immature. This technology is only active in four countries.

In comparing the download speeds of 4G and 5G networks, we have seen a huge difference. According to data analysis, Saudi Arabia had the highest download speed than any other country with 414.2 Mbps, which is 14 times higher than the download speed it is getting on 4G. South Korea has some of the fastest broadbands and mobile network and even with 4G it holds up exceptionally well. Even so, the 5G networks amplify the download speeds to 312.7 Mbps, which is five times faster than its 4G network.

The Future of IoT Innovations – semiconductor chips

The world of technology has taken us to a very advanced era. The new generation is seeing modern technology that they can rely on, which older generations like millennials or baby boomers didn’t have the luxury of. We can definitely say that we are in the digital era because technology is dominating the world.

The technology is not stopping as well. Just when you think that an invention cannot be topped, comes another, more brilliant invention to grace us its presence. There is strong competition out there and the trend is of upgradation. Everything requires update after a certain amount of time before it becomes obsolete. With more advancing technology, 5G and Artificial Intelligence have been introduced and are now taking charge.

How 5G will impact the economy

We are on the brink of a major technological breakthrough with 5G being introduced. It is going well in some of the countries but hasn’t come to its full commercialization. The 5G network provides speed and reliability over mobile data unlike ever seen before. It is a huge deal in Asian countries such as South Korea, where it has been introduced. The people there are enjoying its benefits and the demand for 5G has increased a lot.

With this technological advancement coming our way, it will also have a significant impact on the global economy and this rise is expected to be much more significant than any previous iterations. The researchers and analysts suggest that the 5G internet technology will reach more than $13 trillion output worldwide by 2035.
