Getting into the gaming business is a strategy digital content
platforms tend to adopt for two reasons: one, as a way of keeping old users
engaged with the platform and attracting new users; and two, for increasing
revenue. LinkedIn has recently become one of these platforms too, with the launch
of its own puzzle games.
The games are: ‘Pinpoint,’ ‘Crossclimb,’ and ‘Queens,’ and
they are all available on LinkedIn on desktop as well as mobile. Each of these
games can be played once in a day. They also show metrics like high score, daily
streak, leaderboards, and people you know that have played them.
The Delta game emulator is the first game emulator that is available for free on the App Store for the first time. It'll enable iOS users to enjoy the gaming experience on their iPhones almost like a pseudo Nintendo DS or GBA.
The app can be accessed on the App Store in several countries outside the EU, and in the EU, it is making debut with the newly launched third-party AltStore PAL app marketplace. According to Riley Testut, developer of the Delta emulator, both the app versions work the same. Other Nintendo emulators, including a wide range from the original Nintendo Entertainment System and Nintendo 64, are also expected to arrive to the App Store.
On-screen buttons in the app change their layout and
appearance to match the emulated system. Users can also put up extra buttons
for different functions such as quick save states and fast-forward, as well as customize
their layout.
The Delta app supports Bluetooth controllers like Xbox One
Series S or PS5 controllers; and multiplayer for the NES, SNES, N64, and AirPlay
streaming too. It also works with some of Nintendo’s non-typical input methods,
like the gyroscope and microphone controls.
Delta offers some additional touches as well, like automatic
grabbing of the box art for the games and the ability to customize the art
using its built-in database or even custom images. Users can also import
controller skins and customize them.
Delta was first released as a 1.0 version in 2019, which means
that it has been updated and improved multiple times through the years. This will
likely make the app one of the most enhanced emulation experiences on the
iPhone.

Through a new tag option on TikTok, users will now be able
to select movies or TV shows to link within their TikTok clips. The feature is developed
in collaboration with IMDb.
The tagged movies / TV shows will contain their IMDb links, which will provide more information regarding the content, such as release date, cast notes, etc. Users can find these tags above the video captions.
YouTube has been testing its Queue feature for iOS and
Android versions of the app for about a month. The feature has been available
on YouTube’s desktop version and the YouTube Music app, and allows a user to stack
videos into a temporary playlist.
The way the queuing option works on the app is by displaying
a ‘play last in queue’ button next to a video thumbnail. If you tap on the
button while watching another video, your desired video will be added last in
the queue and will play after your current video stops playing. If you tap on
the button when you are not watching any video, your desired video will be
added to a new queue.
Videos stacked in a queue play one after another automatically – when one video ends, the next video in the sequence starts playing. There are also options to rearrange and remove the videos. Moreover, if you close the player by tapping the X button in the bottom bar or by quitting the app, your current queue will be automatically deleted. The app may also notify you before removing your queue.
YouTube has merged its two most used functionalities: the short-form video creation tool Shorts and Connected TV (CTV)
viewing. As a result, users will be able to view Shorts in full screen on their
TVs.
YouTube reveals that it had been testing the development of the best presentation format for Shorts for a while and found the large-screen viewing to be worthy. Explaining the initiative, YouTube says, “It was important that the Shorts experience on TV felt consistent with what the community sees on mobile and also natural on the bigger screen.”
Apart from providing entertainment to the
app’s users, TikTok has also worked to enhance shopping and advertising experience
on its platform. The company has initiated a new approach, that it calls ‘shoppertainment;’
a combination of entertainment and shopping. After surveying people about their
online shopping experience, TikTok found out that the reduced impact of advertisement
influences consumers’ shopping experience, and is therefore sharing key insights
for advertisers to consider while creating ads in alignment with consumers’
needs.
TikTok begins its advertising lesson by highlighting two main needs of consumers: functional and emotional. By addressing both, brands can maximize their presence on the app, suggests TikTok. Following these needs are more specific things that consumers look for from a brand, which include storytelling and education, short content that maintains attention, unforced decision making, authenticity, and recommendations on trends.
After receiving considerable success with its short-form
video feature ‘Shorts’ that collects over 30 billion views in a day, YouTube is
planning to grow Shorts even more, by launching an exclusive Shorts player within
its smart TV app.
The Shorts player will display the videos vertically at the centre
of the screen, hence creating a more immersive experience for viewers. Details pertaining
to the clips, including title and name of the music track will be shown on the side,
along with quick access buttons to scroll up and down through the videos.
YouTube’s initiative is not really original however, as its competitor, TikTok, has already incorporated the same approach that enables users to access its TV app on the LG and Samsung smart TVs.
