Worldwide pharmaceutical market revenue reached a jaw-dropping $1.4 trillion in 2022. So which pharmaceutical companies were the most profitable? The most profitable pharmaceutical company in the world in 2022 was Pfizer, which raked in $31.37 billion, or $994.80 per second! A significant portion of these profits likely came from Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine as well as Paxlovid, a medication used for the treatment of COVID-19. Pandemic Winners Struggle Harder in the Post-Pandemic World


Zoom Video Communications, the company that won great amount of recognition during the early days of the pandemic, reported better-than-expected results for its first fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2023. With total revenue of $1.11 billion and enterprise revenue of $630 million in the first quarter, Zoom raised its full-year guidance as well, expecting around 2 percent revenue growth for the year ending January 31, 2024. That is indeed a far cry from the growth numbers it posted during the pandemic years, as the working-from-home requirements come to an end and rigid competition from Microsoft Teams, Cisco’s Webex and Salesforce’s Slack have brought the former pandemic high-flyer down to earth.

Facebook has limited its Profile Picture Frames feature that let users create their own frames as well as choose frames of their choice for their profile pictures from a range of different options in the Frames Gallery.

 

It all started last year when CNBC observed a rise in the number of people on Facebook promoting the anti-vaccine campaign via profile picture frames. As a result, Facebook had to take down the offending frames one by one. Eventually, the platform decided to remove all the frames altogether, excluding the ones that were owned by approved partners.

 


The platform’s Frame Studio tool that allows users to create profile frames now has a message for users, informing them of Facebook’’s decision to limit the ability to create the frames and the new regulations around it.

 

Facebook stated in its message, “We limited the ability to create profile frames on Facebook to authoritative organizations. We’re continuing that work now, so that Profile frames from unapproved Pages and profiles can no longer be applied to new profile pictures.”

US President Joe Biden has aimed a goal for around 70 percent of the world’s population to get vaccinated fully against the deadly Covid-19 virus by the end of the coming year i.e., 2022. At the moment, more than half of Biden’s goal share of the population i.e., 45 percent have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

It has been a year since the very first person received the very first official dose of the Covid-19 vaccine outside of the clinical trials, the world still has to go a long way in order to reach the target. The uneven rollout of Covid-19 vaccines in different parts of the world is a major cause impacting the vaccination rate in the country.

That is why the share of the population vaccinated around the world is also uneven. As shown in the infographic below, South America has the highest share of the population fully vaccinated i.e., 60 percent. Followed closely by Europe and Oceania with 59 percent and 56 percent of their population fully jabbed.

Based on the prescription drug sales in the previous year i.e., 2020, the annual list of top 50 biopharma companies was published by the Pharmaceutical Executive earlier in June. The infographic below lists the top 8 of these biopharma companies and according to it, Roche once again takes a bow with the higher number of Rx Sales and R&D Spend i.e., $47.5 billion and $11.3 billion, respectively.

The companies top seller drugs include MS drug Ocrevus and cancer medication Avastin. In addition, the incredible sales of some newly launched drugs by the company including, Hemlibra for hemophilia, Kadcyla and Perjeta for cancer, and Tecentriq also added to its overall sales.

This is the second consecutive year when Roche topped the ranking, overtaking Pfizer, the previous front-runner. However, Pfizer’s return to the first position is highly expected in 2021 due to its significant role in the pharmaceutical market after the invention of Covid-19 vaccines.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet, in fact, the countries are seeing new variants with different symptoms and illness intensities, many countries have made it compulsory to get vaccinated.

On July 12th, Emmanuel Macron, the French President made vaccinated mandatory for healthcare workers during a speech. This new measure to prevent the spread of this deadly virus is expected to impact nearly 70,000 people. The country has also seen a surge in the new cases of the Delta variant, which provoked the government to take strict actions in order to curb the pandemic.
