Among the uncountable impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, some impacts are on the rental patterns as well. In the USA, several residents who lived in elite areas and in expensive rental homes, packed up their stuff and moved to smaller cities or areas with low rental properties. Furthermore, the increased remote working opportunities and work from home orders have made it easier for people to opt for homes in farther neighborhoods as well.

As the infographic shows, the largest decrease in the rental prices of apartments was seen in San Francisco that too, for a one-bedroom apartment. A 45 percent decrease in the rental prices of one-bedroom apartments in San Francisco indicates how people are escaping from places with exorbitant rents. As for a two-bedroom apartment, the rental fares went down by 24 percent over a year from March 2020 to March 2021.

As many states push to reopen, the housing market is beginning to spring back to life. With near-record low mortgage rates, many home buyers are searching for their perfect home. For many, buying a home is the biggest and most important purchase they will make in their entire lifetime.

Lombardo Homes recently surveyed 1,800 homeowners to learn more about what today’s home buyers are searching for as well as a deep analysis of the home buying process in 2020. Let’s take a deeper dive into the full results of the survey.

How long did the home buying process take?

The survey from Lombardo homes found that the average time people spend searching for a home is over 4 months. Surveyed respondents said that they looked at 19 different homes on average before deciding on the home they purchased.

How did you find your home?

When asked how homebuyers found the home they are currently living in, 51% of surveyed respondents said they worked with an agent or realtor. 38% said that they found the home while searching online. Just 11% said they found the house locally while driving or walking past it.

America has the highest single parent rate
According to PewResearch Center, the US has the world’s highest rate of children living with single parents. As per data received in 2018, almost a quarter of American children under the age of 18 lived with a single parent – and no other adults present in the household, except adult children.

The survey also concluded that mothers usually get the responsibility of children with 20% of children in the US living with just their mothers – compared to 5% who lived with their father.

When it comes to ethnicity, 49% of black children were reported to be living with one parent while Hispanic and white kids comprised 28% and 21% respectively.

The UK follows the USA and has the second-highest rate of single parenting.  Other countries on the list included Sao Tome and Principe, Russia, and Denmark. The only African country part of the Infographic is Kenya with over 15% of children living with single parents.  

Afghanistan, Mali, and Turkey are listed as the countries with the lowest rate of single parenting amongst the surveyed regions.

Who is watching Netflix amidst the pandemic?
The global health emergency has forced a major population of the world to stay in homes for weeks – perhaps months! And with no movie theatres, bars, and restaurants to visit – many of us are taking solace in the one and only Netflix.

The video-streaming service, Netflix is seeing unprecedented growth over the past few months and its latest quarterly report confirms the notion. According to the Q1 2020 results, Netflix added nearly 16 million paid subscribers to its services, reaching a whopping 182.9 million users.

The company expects to reach 190 million paid subscribers globally by the end of June.

However, the streaming service was sensible enough not to gloat about its recent achievements and considered the sensitive situation that we are all part of. In a pensive note to its shareholder, the company acknowledged the recent scenario and said that they were fortunate to have a service that is meaningful to the people confined at home.

The company also wrote their desire to continue their service with minimal disruption during these testing times.

The recent coronavirus pandemic has created an uncertain situation on a global level. (Almost) the whole global population is complaining about the ongoing lockdown and restricted free travels amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. But did you know, that some people – predominantly the residents of America were not the type to venture outside, even when they were free to do so?

In this regard, the EPA conducted an interesting study where they analyzed the participant’s daily diary in detail. Through their research, they concluded that an average American spent only 8% of his or her life outside.

The study dates back to 2001 and was carried out by the EPA to determine the number of Americans that were exposed to pollutants on an everyday basis. However, it is widely cited today to determine the lifestyle patterns of Americans.

The study also states that Americans spend three-quarters of their lives inside their residences or at their workplace. The remaining 13% is spent at other indoor locations while 5.5% is in vehicles.

The spread of the novel coronavirus has shifted our daily lifestyles drastically with people forced to stay indoors and only allowed to leave their residence for exercise and essential shopping. Although many people are grumbling about the situation, there are some who are enjoying quality time with the family – including Americans.
