Among the uncountable impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, some impacts are on the rental patterns as well. In the USA, several residents who lived in elite areas and in expensive rental homes, packed up their stuff and moved to smaller cities or areas with low rental properties. Furthermore, the increased remote working opportunities and work from home orders have made it easier for people to opt for homes in farther neighborhoods as well.
As the infographic shows, the largest decrease in the rental prices of apartments was seen in San Francisco that too, for a one-bedroom apartment. A 45 percent decrease in the rental prices of one-bedroom apartments in San Francisco indicates how people are escaping from places with exorbitant rents. As for a two-bedroom apartment, the rental fares went down by 24 percent over a year from March 2020 to March 2021.
The year 2020 has shed light on just how important it is to have an ideal, comfortable home to spend time in. So it is no wonder that people are making big moves, purchasing new homes, and rapidly turning over real estate during this unprecedented year. In fact, Business Insider aptly states that “the hottest pandemic purchase is a house, as more and more Americans take advantage of low mortgage rates to attain spacious backyards and more comfortable work-from-home locales. At the rate of home sales, the US could actually run out of new ones in just a few months.
The natural disasters are getting more and more frequent. Their
intensity, larger and more furious than before. It is a fact that natural
disasters have been more impactful as of late and whether it is the fault of
global warming or not, you cannot deny that it is downright scary.
In the USA, there has been a lot of increase in weather-related damage. With a number of famous, big hurricanes hitting the country, it is very important that the people take the necessary precautions to minimize the destruction. Other than the hurricanes, flooding and wildfires have been a lot this year. Australian wildfires started back in January of 2020 and caused a lot of destruction to property as well as wildlife. Then there were wildfires in California which caused even more destruction to the already miserable year.
The magical feeling that comes from seeing greenery and having it around us is unparalleled. If you have a house, you probably have a lawn yourself as well. If you don't, you may have come across lawns many times at various places. But have you ever wondered how the concept of lawn started? Let's take a step back into the past and see how lawns looked like centuries ago. It may take you by surprise that the origins of lawns can be traced to Africa, all the way back in the 12th century. African savannas like to keep their grass levels low so that they are able to keep an eye out for danger.
Sodding, that is the process of turfing, first started in Japan in 1159 AD. Since there were no machines or technology of any sort at that time for sodding, it was done entirely by hand. Sodding is not only limited to Japan though and it was prominent in other regions at that time as well. The tradition of having low-level grass and turfing had indeed become famous during the 12th century and farm animals used to contribute their part in keeping the grass neat and low thanks to grazing.
Stepping a bit forward into the 12th and 13th centuries, we can find bowling greens. As the name suggests, bowling greens were actually spaces dedicated to outdoor sports. Golf is one of the most prominent examples of sports that consists of vast bowling green spaces but these spaces were also for cricket, tennis, croquet and others. In the 15th century, soccer also became a part of the bowling greens spaces family.
Are you moving into a new home? If yes, then the feelings of excitement can be wonderful but you may also be feeling anxious about decorating your new place. It may seem easy but paying attention to delicate details is required for your new home to give comfortable and lively vibes. Furniture is one of the first things you should be paying attention to.
Of course, furniture planning is done according to each room's purpose. It's important to keep your budget in mind, especially if you have sold away all your old furniture. Even if you have some of your old furniture, it's highly likely that most of them would either be too large or too small to look great in the rooms of your new abode. So if you don't plan to keep a certain chair or a sofa, then it's better to sell it away rather than going through the effort and cost of moving it.
A lot of us have gardens and backyards full of plants that will bear our fruits and vegetables, but many of us are also deprived of that privilege. The only affirmation for people in the latter category is daydreaming about apple orchards, banana trees, firmly grounded carrots and fat, rounded potatoes. If you've been craving to grow your own food, especially veggies, the good thing is that you can make something out of the scraps.
Why should you regrow vegetables? Firstly, you will save up a lot of money, secondly, you'll be watching over the entire growth process and be comfortable knowing that nothing toxic has gone into it. The best part is that not much space is required to grow these veggies again from their leftovers. You don't need a huge garden or backyard to do some quick veggie gardening. If you live in an apartment, that will do the trick.
Let's face it - we all have seen ourselves getting lazy over accomplishing house chores and household tasks. You have got a pile of dirty clothes staring at you from inside the laundry basket, but you are not sure whether you should do the laundry first or do a bit of dusting first. While many of us are good at managing our work, some of us are clueless when it comes to daily household tasks. Most of us procrastinate over house chores and it's okay, but they don't have to be dull and create feelings of loathing!
Lombardo Homes recently surveyed 1,800 homeowners to learn more about what today’s home buyers are searching for as well as a deep analysis of the home buying process in 2020. Let’s take a deeper dive into the full results of the survey.
How long did the home buying process take?
The survey from Lombardo homes found that the average time people spend searching for a home is over 4 months. Surveyed respondents said that they looked at 19 different homes on average before deciding on the home they purchased.
How did you find your home?
When asked how homebuyers found the home they are currently living in, 51% of surveyed respondents said they worked with an agent or realtor. 38% said that they found the home while searching online. Just 11% said they found the house locally while driving or walking past it.
The self-monitored home security systems are usually simple to install and equipped with everything, including the installation manual so there is no need to pay for it. However, if a user is afraid that installation or maintenance could be a burden or a problem, a good way to learn more about it is to watch “how-to” videos, usually available on the company’s website or some video-oriented platforms. Another way is to research and read buyers’ reviews and check how many of them are about installation issues.
