How to Stop Obsessing Over Your Mistakes

Worrying is natural. In fact, worry is an evolutionary tendency, since learning from your mistakes helps you not make them again. It’s how children learn not to touch hot things – and how our ancestors learned not to pet the crocodiles! But when contemplating or worrying about your mistakes becomes an obsession, it stops being a survival tool and can actually become harmful. Part of the problem is that our brains tend to use ‘down time’ to process those mistakes.

When your mind has nothing else to do, it reflects on the past, and particularly on those moments from which you’ll benefit from learning. But your body is a complex system. People whose minds tend to circle around the same mistake again and again are at higher risk of eating disorders, depression and heart disease.

One way to jolt yourself out of this mindset is to give your mind something else to do. Get a change of scenery, or at least a change of ‘mental scenery.’ Going for a walk, having a chat or getting stuck in a new task can all help dispel that inner voice.

Building a Sustainable Future: 8 Ways We Reduce Our Environmental Impact

In appreciation of Earth Month, we share with you our story of building a more sustainable future for employees, customers and partners. Our sustainability report outlines the significant steps we take to limit environmental impact at all levels, in all operations - from product development to production to end-of-life management.

Above all, our approach is to design for durability. It means that products are researched and developed to be repeatedly handled, serviced and repaired as needed to create long-lasting solutions. In production, we work hard to maintain transparency and source responsibly. Owning most of our supply chain allows us to push safety, health and environmental initiatives beyond the minimum requirements.

A closed-loop manufacturing approach diverts 100% of our manufacturing waste from landfill. We are proud of our commitments to reduce our environmental impact. Together as a team, we will continue to push ourselves to do better for a sustainable future.

Linux vs. Windows for Small Business Productivity

The Windows partition has barely been touched, except to install Linux Mint and to install the software required for these tests. The Windows partition has Windows Defender antivirus switched on. Both partitions use Dropbox.I felt that the fairest comparison would be to used popular applications that had versions native to both Linux and Windows, and then to test the exact same operations on the exact same files. To the extent that both GIMP and LibreOffice are both open source written primarily for the Linux, this may still not be completely unskewed.

The 5 Stage of Compulsive Gambling

Compulsive or pathological gambling is a progressive illness, a psychological disorder which is just as difficult to overcome as addiction to alcohol or drugs. The compulsive gambler experiences a series of stages, each with its own warning signs. While the number of stages varies from 3 to 5, depending on the source, all are similar in the first three.

This article discusses the 5 stages, since that is the most complete. Note that not all compulsive gamblers will experience all of the phases, as they may give up before the final one. In addition, here we will refer to the action compulsive gambler, primarily male, as opposed to an escape problem gambler, primarily female. Action Compulsive Gambler Profile Generally male, the action compulsive gambler possesses an I.Q. over 120, is controlling, manipulative and domineering and has a big ego.

He is also confident, assertive, energetic and very persuasive, yet with a low self-esteem. Typically, the action compulsive gambler started gambling early, often in the teenage years. The phases occur over a 10 to 30 year period. Games of choice are typically those of skill, usually card games, such as poker, or craps or dice games, horse or dog racing, and sports betting – both legal and illegal gambling venues.

The action compulsive gambler seeks to beat the “house,” and believes he has a system that will enable him to score the big win. Studies of action compulsive gamblers show that during the later phases, he will often switch to slots or video poker games in an attempt to escape from the desperation he feels over continued losses.

Natural Ways to Fight Off Pests and Save Your Garden

Many gardeners have an aversion to chemicals. These gardeners may be devoted to pesticide-free growing, want to plant (and eat) edibles, or simply like the thought of keeping flower beds naturally healthy. Whatever the reason, there are key steps you can take to get and keep the pesticides out of your garden.

Grow on a good foundation. Healthy plants love healthy soil – soil that’s regularly changed with compost or supplemented if it’s too sandy or clayey. Have your soil tested to discover its composition and add nutrients as needed. Each spring, dig in several inches of compost, protect your plants yearly or seasonally with a healthy layer of organic mulch, and clear out any dead plant material at the growing season’s end.

Match your plants to your growing climate. If you have plants that struggle and strain through the growing season, they may not be a good fit, either for the spot they’re in or for your climate. For example, sun-loving phlox may be more susceptible to wilt or mold if planted in a shady, wet location. Shrubs hardy only to USDA Zone 5 may struggle after a particularly difficult, long, and cold winter. Choose your plants carefully and site them where recommended on the plant’s label information.

Be diverse. Some plants need more of a certain kind of nutrient or mineral, such as nitrogen. If you plant the same thing over and over in the same spot, you’ll deplete your soil of the very thing the plants require. You’ll also encourage nuisance bugs to take up residence – think squash bugs that overwinter in the ground and feed on the same plot of melons each year. Your yearly garden plan should include a diverse crop with a variety of flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Rotating plants helps, too. In a veggie garden, swap out spots, moving your tomatoes and peppers from year to year and skipping cucumbers if squash bugs have taken up residence.

The Ultimate Guide to Marketing to Gen Z

Generation Z marketing simply calls for a change in your approach and strategy. The savvy marketer will do well to study their habits and the places they hang out. The key to nailing Generation Z marketing is to know as much as possible about them.No generation has been as empowered as Gen Z is.

Technology has given the freedom to break free from traditional media channels. In turn, this freedom has given them a choice of what they consume, when they consume it, on their preferred platform.Traditional marketing thrived on gathering data from current trends and using it to create the next successful campaign.

That approach is fast losing its potency as Gen Z is not into current trends—they are looking for the next trend to follow. Brands that anticipate the “next wave” are the ones that have success with their Generation Z marketing. With Gen Z, it’s all about providing an experience that they enjoy. That’s why most of the successful marketing campaigns of our time (and going into the future) are more about experiencing the product. This approach is contrary to traditional marketing methods that relied more on informational campaigns.
