Safe Substance Abuse Recovery for LGBTQ+

There is already a certain tradition in the scientific literature to apply certain models when talking about the state of health of people in general and LGBT people in particular. For example, the large-scale 2011 study, “The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People: Building a Framework for Better Understanding,” conducted by the Institute of Medicine and supported by the National Institutes of Health, uses four methodological approaches to show how different levels of social life intersect and affect the health status of the LGBT community in the United States.

TikTok’s policy against grooming behaviors claims that the company has zero tolerance for such behavior. Recently, BBC’s Panorama conducted an investigation to challenge the company’s policy. An account belonging to a 14 years old girl was created and the user reported offensive behavior from a male adult user who was sending her messages containing sexual content. TikTok did not take any action against the account, until Panorama personally reached out to the company.

TikTok in its explanation said that its moderators did not intervene in the matter initially because the young teen had not clarified that she received the offending messages via TikTok’s DMs.

TikTok’s policy does not allow its users under the age of 16 to send or receive messages, but many of the underage users end up lying about their real age and register themselves as older. As part of Panorama’s investigation for the matter, a journalism graduate was recruited to create an account posing as a 14 years old girl, but the account was registered with 16 years of age. The actor whose actual age was 23, uploaded edited pictures of herself on the account that made her appear younger.

A recent report from CBS News revealed that a large number of people on Instagram are reporting stories of alleged sexual assaults they've faced at their university or college campuses. The stories come in as educational institutes in the U.S. and U.K. begin to physically or virtually resume classes. The assaults have reportedly been in the form of harassment, stalking, and even rape.

The anonymous stories shared on the social media platform were followed by an open letter that was submitted to Case Western Reserve University. The letter called out for development of reforms to bring improvements to the process of reporting and investigation following assaults. The open letter was posted to the university's survivor account, where over 500 students, both current and former, have reported their assaults.

How We Can Help With Your Civil Sexual Assault Case

Anyone who is the victim of a sexual assault crime has the right to file a civil suit seeking financial compensation for injuries. These injuries would be sustained as a result of the crime from the assaulter or from others whose negligence gives rise to the conditions which allowed the crime to occur.

A simple example would be an action by the victim of a sexual assault in her home against the man who assaulted her and against the landlord who failed to repair the broken lock on the front door of the building. Another example would be a massage therapist who assaulted a client at a Day Spa or Wellness Center without having a license or where previous complaints were reported and the company failed to do anything about it or hired the therapist knowing they had a history of sexual assault in the past.

While the criminal justice system holds criminal defendants accountable for their crimes against the state, the civil justice system holds defendants who are found liable directly accountable to their victims.

A civil lawsuit can provide for reimbursement of monetary losses as well as emotional and physical injuries suffered by the sexual assault victim. A civil suit gives the victims their “day-in-court” regardless of whether there was a full criminal trial. If there was a criminal trial and the assaulter was found guilty, this is extremely helpful for your civil case as well.
