To encourage taking the COVID-19 vaccine and promote
vaccination around the globe, Facebook has launched a bunch of tools, including
one that shows users in the US where they can get vaccinated. Users will also
be provided with links, so they can make an appointment at their local provider
in a fast and easy manner. Providers will be highlighted on a map and relevant
information will be shown to book an appointment.
To ensure more awareness among people about vaccines,
Facebook is also expanding its COVID-19 info center to Instagram. The info
center will be displayed at the top of the Instagram feed. Moreover, Instagram
is getting new stickers for Stories that will help raise awareness about
vaccines, such as the “Let’s get vaccinated” sticker.
Moderna Inc has been carrying out a study of a new COVID-19
vaccine candidate that it is testing for being stored and shipped in
refrigerators instead of freezers, hence making the vaccine easier to
distribute. The company recently administered the first dose of the vaccine to
a participant in an early stage of its testing.
According to Moderna, this new COVID-19 vaccine would be particularly useful in developing countries where problems with supply chain potentially hinder vaccination drives.
Ever since the Covid-19 vaccination campaigns began, there
has been a lot of chaos around the availability of limited shots in hospitals
and local health departments, the issues with sign-up websites and other online
tools. Moreover, in New York particularly, vaccines are being distributed
across several different sites. As a result, people are struggling with multiple
registration websites as they look for open slots.
As a plan to offer a better solution to these issues, software developer Dan Benamy worked on creating a platform along with other volunteers to pull every open vaccine appointment into one, easy-to-use site. The platform pulls in vaccine appointments from around 40 locations currently.
It’s been two months since the COVID-19 vaccination campaign
began, and researchers are preparing for a situation that was predicted by
experts during the early days of the pandemic: the alteration in vaccines to combat
the mutations of the virus.
There are evidences that report that some COVID-19 vaccines
such as the Novavax and the Johnson and Johnson vaccines in South Africa are
not as effective against the virus’ variant.
In the US, the current vaccines seem to be only partially effective against the newly identified strain of the virus. One of the companies, Moderna, has announced that it has already started to work on developing another version of the vaccine.
Google is all set to launch vaccine information panels to fight against the misinformation being spread regarding the coronavirus vaccines. As per the announcement made by Google today, the company shall be launching these panels first in the United Kingdom, as news regarding vaccination trials being underway in the UK have been making the rounds. This feature has come as a result of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine getting approved and shot.
The authorization of COVID-19 vaccines is still in process in other countries and as soon as it is done in other regions, Google will make the panels available there too. In a first by the giant search engine, the attempt is to cover and organize information related to each and every vaccine around the world. It will feature where and when people can receive the vaccine, as well as indicate any misinformation being spread about it.
