The most recent historic wildfires in the world

According to the latest assessment published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the rising temperature will exceed the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius in the next two decades as a result of human-made climate change. This can only be prevented if highly strict and immediate actions are taken all around the world.

The change in climate has already triggered droughts, heatwaves, extreme yet rare weather events in many parts of the world. One of these extreme events is a wildfire which is currently eating up huge areas of land in different countries.

In the Southern Europe region, Greece and Turkey, two of the world's most beautiful countries have been experiencing the worst wildfires in history. The extreme flames have resulted in rendering thousands of people homeless since the areas are rapidly being evacuated to avoid casualties.

The world is burning, as they say, in some places literally. The last few years have seen a global increase in wild fires around the world. Just last year, California's deadly wildfire burned more than 2 million acres of land, and made headlines all over the world. And who could forget the Amazon rainforest fire that burned up more than 2 million acres of forest land once again.

Unfortunately, these are not the worst of the news. The current bushfires of Australia, an annual occurrence in the region every summer, caught the world's attention for all the wrong reasons. Approximately 12 million acres of land have burned down in the current fires, and it is estimated that more than half a billion animals have died.

A frightening look at bushfires around the world
The recent occurrence of wildfires in California and the Amazon jungle made us all stand in solidarity and pray for the innocent victims of the area. However, these fires affected a relatively smaller piece of land when compared to the current blazes that have engulfed a good portion of Australia.

As of this writing, approximately 12 million acres of land have been burned in Australia from the fire that started during the last months of 2019. Authorities also report that almost half a billion animals have been killed due to the incident while several lives and homes are lost.

According to The NewYork Times, the bushfires grew more severe amidst the heatwave and draught conditions in Australia. Unfortunately, the fires are expected to escalate further as the weather gets warmer in the continent. Scientists also predict the fires to become more frequent and severe all over the world in connection with climate change.

How to Fight a Ransomware Attack

It can strike at any time. One minute you are working on your computer and the next your computer is behaving strangely, and you can’t open your files. You look into a folder and see your files with altered file names. You look in other folders and see the same thing. You try opening Word files, Excel files, pictures nothing is working correctly. You reboot your computer because that seems to be Microsoft’s solution to most problems. But not this time. This time, rebooting solves nothing.

You might see a message pop up on your screen informing you that your files have all been encrypted. You might see a file that appears in every folder and when you open it, you will be informed of the attack. What’s happening here is that malicious software has attacked your computer and it has encrypted many if not all your documents.

The only way to decrypt these files to make them usable again is to get a decryption key. The only way to get a decryption key is to pay a ransom to the perpetrator of this attack. And the perps ask for payment in cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin, which would be untraceable. It’s like leaving a bag of unmarked cash bills on a park bench for them to pick up.

Should you pay the ransom to get your files back? Probably not. Ideally, you have everything backed up. Then it is just a matter of removing the virus and restoring the files from backup. Removing the virus might be simple and straightforward or it might be difficult. Sometimes, it can require a complete reformat of the computer to ensure that it is, in fact, clean.

But what if you do not have adequate backups of your files? Should you pay the ransom then? Let’s think about it. The ones who have perpetrated this attack on you are criminals. What is the likelihood that said criminals will keep their word and deliver the decryption key to you following your ransom payment?

What recourse would you have if you sent the ransom and then they didn’t help you decrypt your files? And, if you do pay the ransom and they do provide the key, what is stopping them from hitting you with another ransomware attack again? Maybe the next attack might demand thousands instead of hundreds of dollars. You will have proven to them that you are a good source of income for them.

How To Become a Firefighter
Firefighting might be the perfect combination of a job that pays the bills while offering the chance to help others. But it can be a hard job to get. Despite the potential dangers involved, firefighting attracts many more people than there are positions available, and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the career is expected to grow by just 7 percent between 2012 and 2022, which is below average.

The jobs will likely come as communities are able to convert volunteer positions to full-time work and as the demand for emergency services due to an aging population rises. In fact, two out of three of the emergencies that firefighters respond to, the BLS reports, are medical — not fire-related.
