In collaboration with American Airlines and Breakthrough Energy, Bill Gates’ climate investment fund, Google has developed contrailforecast maps that can create more sustainable flight routes.

Contrails are white condensation streaks that planes sometimes leave behind in the sky, and they account for about 35% of aviation's global warming impact. By avoiding certain routes that create contrails, pilots can reduce environmental footprint.

The Factors that Lead to Rise in Food Prices

The World Food Price Index reached to the highest peak in March 2022 before gradually falling for nine months to December 2022. The question is that what caused this rush?

There are many factors that contribute to the rising cost of global food, but disruptions in supply chain and climate change are two most important drivers for the spike in prices over the most recent years.

The infographic from Brazil Potash explores how these two factors are contributing to the most recent rise in food prices.

Drastic impacts of climate change on the world

Climate change has been a major issue for decades and unfortunately, very little is done about it. the infographic below reveals some brutal realities of the effects of climate change. The report under the title of Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis shares the updates regarding climate change consensus on global warming in 2021. The main highlight of this report is that by 2030, a 1.5-degrees Celsius change could be reached which can bring a lot of extreme consequences to the weather events.

Extreme weather events such as wildfires, cloudburst conditions, drought, cyclones, earthquakes, etc. are some of the most common effects of climate change. The number of these rare weather events is increasing drastically all around the world.

The most recent historic wildfires in the world

According to the latest assessment published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the rising temperature will exceed the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius in the next two decades as a result of human-made climate change. This can only be prevented if highly strict and immediate actions are taken all around the world.

The change in climate has already triggered droughts, heatwaves, extreme yet rare weather events in many parts of the world. One of these extreme events is a wildfire which is currently eating up huge areas of land in different countries.

In the Southern Europe region, Greece and Turkey, two of the world's most beautiful countries have been experiencing the worst wildfires in history. The extreme flames have resulted in rendering thousands of people homeless since the areas are rapidly being evacuated to avoid casualties.

A decade’s increase and decrease of per capita emission

Since the greenhouse gases emissions have impacted the climate of the world really bad, several developed countries are working out to reduce their per capita emissions so that we can save our motherland. Over the last decade, various countries have successfully reduced the per capita emissions however, several failed to do so.

Green buildings: An approach to reduce global warming

The world is getting worst and worst in terms of global warming, every other day the number of pollutants are rising. Things that are being overlooked now can bring a lot of consequences for the entire planet. Many people may not know that the construction of buildings also contributes to global warming. Wondering how? Well, in 2019, the International Energy Agency (IEA) reported that the buildings and their construction together accounted for 35 percent of the total energy use whereas, 38 percent of the energy and other processes related to carbon dioxide emission.

In order to reduce this number, the building developers and construction firms are looking for ways to construct buildings in smarter and greener ways. This will not only save the cost but also cause no harm to the environment.

Significant growth predicted in electric vehicle investment

Since climate change is getting serious every year and has affected numerous parts of the world, several countries have started initiatives in order to combat climate change. Air pollution through vehicle emission plays a major role in global warming. Hence, electric vehicles are preferred for a cleaner environment. Renewable energy and electric vehicle are great components to reduce global warming. Moreover, the reasonable prices of these components have also contributed to the increased investments in companies including Tesla and Jinko Solar. The infographic below shows how renewable energy and electric vehicles' investments are projected to grow over the coming years.

Climate change is making each year warmer than the previous one

Global warming has been an issue for decades, which is giving shape to more hazardous weather conditions in various parts of the world. The most common causes responsible for the rise in climate change include increased carbon footprint due to human activities such as burning down fossil fuels, deforestation, vehicle pollution, industrial pollution, disrupting marine life, and several more. As per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report, 2020 has been declared as the warmest year in history after 2016.

The infographic below shows how the planet’s temperature is inching up with time, causing hotter years and extreme weather conditions. According to the chart, since 1951, the world’s weather has increased by +0.82 degrees Celsius. Each decade since 1981, the temperature has increased by 0.18 degrees Celsius.

Which companies are polluting the world with their plastic waste?

Climate change has become a topic that cannot be neglected now. As the world is progressing, the climate has been affecting due to various activities of the industries. From plastic waste to harmful gases, everything is contributing to global warming. In order to aware the world of the disastrous climate change that we are heading to, a lot of campaigns have been initiated. People are trying to find alternate ways to reduce pollution and save nature. Similarly, many industries have opted for the techniques and created eco-friendly policies and don’t cause harm to our planet. Greta Thunberg’s protests against Climate Change

A Swedish environmental activist, Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg, is recognized worldwide due to her protests against climate change. She was as young as 15 years old since she started to miss her school for protests. The little girl very soon realized that adult and mature teachers who teach them stuff in school do not follow it themselves. That was the day when she decided that she needs to make her teachers walk their talk.

Greta’s story is extremely inspiring in various ways; she was born in 2003 in Sweden and was just 8 years old when she got to learn about climate change. She was so worried why no one is doing anything for this disastrous change coming our way. In 2018, Sweden was hit by record-breaking weather, heatwaves, wildfires, and a lot more, to which Greta decided to raise her voice. The girl missed her school and protested in front of the Swedish Parliament. She believed that she had to do it because adults were only putting her future at stake.

California has one of the world’s largest car markets

California is a beautiful and important state of the US. With the recent tragedies that has fallen onto it, is nothing less than heartbreaking. It is plagued by heatwaves which is the reason spontaneous wildfires erupt out of nowhere. This is a direct consequence of climate change.

There are a lot of safety precautions and measures in place to minimize the damage done to the state due to global warming. There are effective systems in place as to make sure everything is monitored. The authorities of California have announced to immediately halt the sales of vehicles that have a built-in internal combustion engine. This measure is said to improve the emission of toxic materials and a step to move to 100 percent emission-free vehicles.

Google just announced its mega plan to fight against the rising climate change and its harmful consequences. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, addressed climate change and Google's aim to go carbon free in a recent blogpost. Pichai called for immediate action against climate change to prevent the harsh consequences it can potentially bring, and added that Google too has a part to play in the matter. He further highlighted the ways that the company plans to help build a carbon-free future for everyone.

Pichai stated that sustainability has been Google's core value ever since the company was founded, and that Google was the first major company to go carbon free in 2007. ''We were the first major company to match our energy use with 100 percent renewable energy in 2017. We operate the cleanest global cloud in the industry, and we’re the world’s largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy.'', he continued.

Among the ways it plans to go carbon-free, first and foremost, Google has announced entirely eliminating its carbon legacy as of today, by purchasing high-quality carbon offsets. According to Pirchai, Google's lifetime net carbon footprint is now zero.
