2022 Recorded to be the Sixth Warmest Year

In a new report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), it is declared that 2022 was the sixth warmest year on record (since 1880), as planet Earth continued its worrying warming trend. According to research conducted by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, regular land and ocean surface temperature of Earth in 2022 was recorded at 0.86 degrees Celsius (1.55 degrees Fahrenheit) above the 20th-century average of 13.9 degrees Celsius (57.0 degrees Fahrenheit),

How are Snowflakes Formed in the Atmosphere?

The Art of Snow

Looking at snow up close will probably make you notice that it is formed from thousands of little flakes which have stunningly complex designs.

These snowflakes are actually ice crystals. They are formed in the atmosphere, up in the clouds, and transform along their journey to Earth, all thanks to different factors and forces that are involved in the process.

Let’s look at the facts on how snowflakes are formed, and what atmospheric conditions are involved that contribute to the stunning details we have come to know them for.

Climate change is making each year warmer than the previous one

Global warming has been an issue for decades, which is giving shape to more hazardous weather conditions in various parts of the world. The most common causes responsible for the rise in climate change include increased carbon footprint due to human activities such as burning down fossil fuels, deforestation, vehicle pollution, industrial pollution, disrupting marine life, and several more. As per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report, 2020 has been declared as the warmest year in history after 2016.

The infographic below shows how the planet’s temperature is inching up with time, causing hotter years and extreme weather conditions. According to the chart, since 1951, the world’s weather has increased by +0.82 degrees Celsius. Each decade since 1981, the temperature has increased by 0.18 degrees Celsius.

A timeline of Earth’s Average temperature

If we go back to the era that existed 22,000 years ago, we will find ourselves in a completely different zone. With Boston covered in ice and glaciers visible from the city of Newyork, the world feels much colder than it is today. Fast forward to 19500, when people are beginning to settle down in Australia, Africa and Eurasia. For the sake of basic necessities of life, people have started to craft to produce handmade ropes, pottery etc. After a thousand years later, the polar ice of the earth is exposed to the sunlight, which becomes evident five decades later in the form of melting ice sheets.

Ocean is warmer
The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) notes that the ocean is getting warmer every year. In fact, the annual average temperature recorded in 2019 was 0.77 degrees Celsius – considerably higher than the previously recorded figures.

The NOAA also says that some years happen to be hotter than others, while some are said to be colder. However, there is a definite surge recorded in temperature. They further said that 2016 was recorded as the hottest year with ocean temperatures reaching 0.79 degrees Celsius higher than the average numbers.
