The 200 largest cities in the country were ranked on a variety of different factors pulled from the report, such as the average year between collisions. The national average is 10.57 years, which all 50 cities fell below and the lowest average was Baltimore's 4.19 years. The cities were also scored on the relative collision likelihood when compared to the national average.

It is an unfortunate reality that automobile accidents are common in modern society. Each year, 1.35 million people are killed in roadways around the world. In the United States, more than 38,000 people die annually in car crashes. An additional 4.4 million suffer serious injuries that require medical attention. Sadly, many of these accidents are hit-and-runs, so the drivers escape justice. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that over 680,000 hit-and-run crashes occur each year. Which States Have the Most Fatal Car Crashes?

Did you know that vehicle accidents cause 1.35 million deaths around the globe on average per year? In the US the small state of West Virginia has the highest rate of fatal auto accidents with 90.3 deaths per 100,000 people. 


This map shows how states rank across the United States in terms of deaths due to car crashes. It also shows that despite only accounting for 60% of the world's registered vehicles, lower and middle-income countries make up more then 90% of the world's traffic deaths. This could be due to poor road conditions, vehicle malfunctions, distracted driving, driving under the influence or driving with too much speed. The fatal crash rate is a staggering 3 times higher in lower income countries then higher income countries as well.
