Following last year’s Sewol ferry accident, Korean designer Yuluck wanted to find a way to make safety manuals more interesting to read.

The featured interactive safety guide re-interprets the existing form of safety guides by combining continuous graphics with relevant guidance on how to proceed in specific situations that may arise in emergencies.
Initially, he wanted to respond to the tragedy in Korea. “It’s difficult,” Yuluck said. “In my guide, I wanted to advise people to follow the instructions of the crew, since in a normal circumstance, we assume that the crew has the expertise to know when a situation is critical. In the case of the Sewol tragedy, the captain and crew gave people the wrong instructions. It’s hard to know how to reflect something like that in a guide. In the end, I made a choice to offer the commonly accepted advice to follow the crew’s instructions.”
