To support freelancers with more opportunities, LinkedIn is expanding its Services Marketplace, which is a space for freelancers and brands to connect.

LinkedIn’s Services Marketplace was launched in an initial beta test back in February and has 2 million users. The platform now plans to roll it out globally, to maximize the opportunities for freelancers by facilitating their discovery and connection.

The Services listing option, which is one of LinkedIn’s newest features, can be added by a freelancer to their profile. It will provide advanced discovery, new recommendation tools, search filters, and other tools designed to help business owners discover freelancers and hone in on what they need from them.

Digital Nomads around the world

Digital Nomads are people who make use of telecommunication in order to earn living for themselves. All that a regular digital nomad requires is a laptop and a comfortable place to work from. Digital nomads might work from an airport lounge waiting for their flight, while relaxing in a hammock, in the home’s backyard with a cup of coffee – all perfectly affordable in the country where the nomad lives.

Isn’t that a dream job? Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has clipped the digital nomads’ wings temporarily but, as soon as the pandemic ends, the world would have a huge flock of freelancers from different parts of the world.

The disadvantages of being a freelancer

Freelancing culture has been in the business for years, and many people have managed to pull many benefits from this opportunity. However, freelancing might not appear too endearing to some of the people. It is often believed that an unemployed person is the one who opts for a freelancing job, which nothing but a giant myth. Like every field, freelancing too has its pros and cons, which cannot be overlooked.

Meeting the deadlines

Unlike any official duty hours, freelancers are expected to fulfill their clients' needs at any time they choose as a result of which the freelancers have to compromise on their personal activities. Meeting the deadlines of the clients is yet another issue that freelancers face day-to-day. Sometimes their necessary errands are left undone just because they have pending deadlines. There are only a few flexible clients when it comes to providing a comfortable work environment for freelancers.

How Much Are Big Authors Worth Per Word?
It’s been quite a long time since the days of Dickens, in which authors were rumored to be paid per word for their flourishing prose. Now, authors make most of their money with merchandising and movies; book purchases usually make up only a fraction of their value in terms of royalties. However, in a simpler world, where we only take the words they produce into account, how much would they make if you compare their word output with their total earnings for the year? We’ve gathered data on the richest authors in the word: their net worth, their yearly payout, their number of books sold, and the wordcount of the books they released or co-wrote in 2017. It’s pretty incredible! Could you imagine getting paid hundreds of dollars per every word you produced? While the world doesn’t quite work that way, it’s still pretty interesting to think that every time the keyboard strikes a new combination of letters Stephen King gets $67.20. What would your favorite author make per word?

Freelancing in the Gig Economy
The gig economy is the name given to the wide range of freelance opportunities that have arisen thanks to the technological age. Long ago freelancers were only writers and artists, and only until they could find a “real job.” Now freelancing IS the real job and working for someone else is a total drag.

Whether you run a consulting business or walk other people’s dogs through an app, the gig economy offers a level of autonomy that many people find liberating. You can be a healthier and happier version of yourself when you are calling the shots. There are some downsides, however- freelancers have to purchase their own health insurance policies, fund their own retirement accounts, and square up their own payroll taxes. It’s not for the faint of heart, to be sure.
