Twitter requires public help to improve their verification approach

The giant company rolled out a verification program back in 2017, which was not supported well by its users hence was paused by the company. Twitter then started to put its main focus on safeguarding its users’ integrity on the platform by protecting personal conversation, especially during a very sensitive occasion, i.e., the US Elections 2020. Since the company has also experienced massive hacks this year, it has stricken its overall security. However, the company unsure about the accounts that can be verified and why should an already verified account be unverified. This is exactly what Twitter is calling out the public for.

Twitter needs public feedback from its users regarding their new verification policy so that they can ensure that everyone on the platform agrees to the rules. The company has decided to relaunch its verification program at the start of 2021 along with a public application process. Through the users’ feedback, the social media giant will be able to make future improvements.
The types of accounts that Twitter has identified till now are government, news, Companies, brands and non-profit organizations, sports, entertainment, organizers, and other Influential Individuals. The company will also automatically remove a verified account if it stays inactive or has an incomplete profile. Twitter will start removing verified badges from accounts on the platform that do not deserve it.

Twitter puts an emphasis on the help of its valued users so that it can make the platform the safest place for the people and a platform where everyone can express themselves, communicate with authentic profiles without getting scammed and maintain their privacy. Along with the verification policy, Twitter also has plans for providing new accounts and labels to the profiles so that the users can identify themselves in a better way.
