Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson in 1970 with an objective of a national day to focus on the environment. Nelson directed the energy and motivation of the student anti-war movement to spread awareness about emerging issues like water and air pollution. It was a massive success as many people loved the idea and were woken about the state of our planet.
More than a billion people mobilize for action every year on Earth Day which is celebrated on April 22 every year. On the first-ever Earth Day in 1970, approximately 20 million Americans (about 10%of the total population at that time) gathered in streets, parks and auditoriums to demonstrate healthy environment in the form of rallies.
