A ransomware attack affected Garmin services, causing them to malfunction, until late Wednesday. The Garmin wearables that help athletes keep track of their performances, are now syncing data again, according to The Verge.
Garmin users have reported on Twitter that the data collected from their wearables is now appearing in the Garmin Connect app on their smartphones. The app is, however, still reporting server maintenance.
Meanwhile, the company has stated that there is no indication that this outage has affected users' data, activity, payment or any other personal information.
According to sources, the outage had been a result of a new strain of ransomware called WastedLocker. WastedLocker is operated by the hacker group Evil Corp and allows affected systems to be recovered from backups without having to pay a ransom.
Garmin has yet to provide a statement to further elaborate on the matter.
