It's clear that today's students rely heavily on electronic devices even when they're not incorporated in the classroom. In one survey of college students, 38% said they couldn't even go 10 minutes without switching on some sort of electronic device. But how students are using their devices, how technology is affecting their educational experience, and what effect it has on their well-being are questions that are harder to answer.

Apple MacBooks are very popular with college students, but a little planning and configuration is required for the best experience. A student moving away to college might be the first time they have full control over their own computing experience: installing apps, protecting their privacy, creating good passwords, avoiding viruses & malware, and backing up their data. These are my suggestions for setting up a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro for any college student to simplify their computing experience.
When I heard about Sudan, the death of the last male Northern White Rhino, I felt a profound sadness- her we are, witnessing first hand what mankind’s ceaseless meddling and rampant abuse of its natural resources has done. We were responsible for wiping out an entire species – and it didn’t even make the front page news of most papers. Here are 10 other species that on the endangered or the critically endangered list of the WWF.
Poaching is the most immediate threat to wild tigers. Every part of the tiger—from whisker to tail—is traded in illegal wildlife markets. Unfortunately, their parts are used for traditional medicine, folk remedies and, increasingly, as status symbols among some Asian cultures. One of the world’s largest, and most uniquely-adapted, tiger populations is found in the Sundarbans.
This mangrove forest area shared by India and Bangladesh harbours a variety of species, including tigers, and protect coastal regions from storm surges and wind damage. However, rising sea levels caused by climate change threaten to wipe out these forests and the last remaining habitat of this tiger population. It is only recently after a sustained effort that tiger numbers are slowly on the rise.
Over the course of 2017, pet owners spent a record $70 billion on food, treats, medical care, and everything in between for their fuzzy, feathered, and scaly friends. The emotional bond we share with our pets is as unconditional as it is enduring, and while pet technology can never replace this experience, it can certainly enhance it.
When we break down our daily schedule, it seems that we barely have even enough time for ourselves. Americans spend around eight hours per weekday at the office with our pets anxiously awaiting our return. Once we make it home though, chores and other housework call our attention. Averaging out just four and a half hours for other responsibilities and personal time, our pets actually may see us less than we realize.
We love our dogs more than ever. In fact, over 94% of Americans consider their dogs members of the family. Rover.com - the nation's largest network of pet sitters and dog walkers, and a leading dog name expert - dug into the data from hundreds of thousands of American pet parents to uncover which names are leading leading the pack, and which ones are in the doghouse.
My Dog’s Name provides thousands of options for names and allows users to save their favorites while they search. To determine the most popular dog names in 2018, we compiled the most selected names of the year. What we found surprised us – but for reasons you might not think.

Since five of the US states have decriminalized the substance and are already dealing with drivers under the influence of marijuana, Canada can look up to them as an example of good practice. However, driving under the influence of drugs is illegal in both countries. This infographic briefly describes the difference between Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), makes a good comparison of laws regarding driving while high in Colorado and Washington, how the alcohol level in blood is measured, what are the penalties, and when can you be charged with DUI. Can the US driving laws be a useful guide for implementing marijuana regulations in Canada? Let's take a look.
To be sure you get the compensation for your injuries that you deserve, talk to a Columbia, SC, car accident lawyer at Louthian Law Firm. Attorney Bert Louthian can ask a court for compensation for your medical bills, repair bills, missed work and any other financial costs that the car accident caused, as well as for pain and suffering, permanent disability and other non-economic losses.
In some cases, a car accident attorney may also be able to collect further money, called “punitive damages,” to punish a person or corporation for a particularly serious harmspe Even if you think you may bear some fault for your injuries, the chances are good that you can still collect damages. That’s because South Carolina uses comparative negligence that allows motorists to recover a percentage of their damages even if they were partially at fault.
The first ever Tailgating Institute research study analyzed the habits of over 20,000 tailgaters across 25 American cities. They were chosen based on history, color, climate, and flavor.
You exercise regularly for months… then get derailed by a vacation, business trip, or just the general insanity of life. Sound familiar? Here’s how to stay in shape when you’re busy — it’s faster and easier than you think. It’s one of the most common patterns I see as a fitness and nutrition coach: People trying to get (and stay) in shape work out diligently for months — then get derailed by the holidays or a big deadline at work.
It’s a seesaw that plays out physiologically too. Exercise regularly and you get a training effect — adaptations in the brain, circulatory system, respiratory system, metabolism, muscles, and bones that optimize health and function. Stop exercising and your body starts adapting to that — doing nothing — so you start to lose all these benefits you worked so hard for.
That’s why we came up with this simple, do-anywhere workout. It takes only a few minutes a day, it requires minimal or no equipment, and it focuses on compound exercise (big muscles, big movements) so it’s certain to be effective. It’s also adaptable: You can shuffle exercises around or skip a few of them, come up with different ways to add resistance, or modify the total number of reps and rounds according to how much time you have and your preferences.
Do you think about science when you think about golf? Well, maybe you should: golf is a sport involving forces explained by physics. Precision and force affect the ball’s direction, and force, motion and aerodynamics are in play as the ball moves through the air and lands. This week (August 9–12) is the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour, which takes place in St. Louis, Missouri. Read on to get a better appreciation for the science and skill behind golf.
To fully understand the physics of golf, you must consider the mechanics of rotational motion, a.k.a. the spinning of an object on its axis. When striking the ball, you should relax your wrists through the golf swing so the club moves thoroughly outward in an unrestrained way, applying no rotational force on the club. Uncocking the wrist allows the golf club to “straighten out,” and gain speed, which turns into a harder hit.
Even with a good night's sleep and a big cup of coffee, many of us begin to lose steam only halfway through our morning. Running from meeting to meeting or pouring over tedious documents can take a lot out of you. If you struggle to stay focused or even awake throughout the day, you may be combatting decision fatigue.
Simply put, decision fatigue is a loss of energy and focus after making too many decisions. It may not seem all that serious, but we make anywhere from 10,000 to 40,000 decisions each day. From deciding which shoes to wear to planning our grocery list, we are constantly making choices.
The decision-making process requires us to evaluate new information, compare it to our past experiences, and weigh the pros and cons of multiple outcomes. This can cause a mental drain, impacting both our willpower and self-control. Decision fatigue can cause you to make careless mistakes or even poor decisions at work, as well as in your personal life.
But, while it isn't possible to avoid making decisions completely, there are ways to avoid letting decision fatigue bring you down. Mint created this guide with tips on how to take some of the work out of making decisions. Simplify your day-to-day life and take on big decisions with ease.
