What are the most expensive ingredients in the world? The team at HowToCook.recipes put together this fascinating infographic that lists out more than 30 of the most expensive ingredients in the world, based on their price per kilogram. While the most expensive ingredients on this infographic are in excess of $20,000 per kilogram, even the least expensive ingredient listed is still pricey at $125 per kilogram (Culatello di Zibella from Italy). Of these most expensive ingredients, none come with a higher price tag than the $25,000 per kilogram cost of Almas Caviar, which is produced in Iran. Not only is the ingredient itself very expensive, but it's also packaged in pure gold. Also produced in Iran, Beluga Caviar commands a high price, costing $8,500 per kilogram. Aside from Almas Caviar, there are only two other ingredients that are priced at $20,000 or more per kilogram, with those being Edible Gold ($23,000 per kilogram) and Yartsa Gunbu Fungus ($20,000 per kilogram).
