Across the United States, the education gap continues to grow in different parts of the country. With areas more affluent than others, more focus in recent years is being placed on the funding for public schools. When an area is more well-funded, it allows the school districts in those areas the ability to offer many more opportunities to help their students succeed with their education. Public schools are funded by federal, state, and local resources, and close to half of the funding for these schools comes from property taxes. Because of this, the wealthier areas that have more expensive homes ultimately have more money to put back into their local school systems.
From AAA State of Play, this infographic takes a look at the schools that spent the most per student across America. According to the data, 38 of the top 50 school districts (76%) that spend the most on their students are in New York State, with Syosset Central School District (Syosset, NY) spending the most on average per student at $32,125.
