According to the Washington Post’s tally, the death toll of people shot to death by the US Police reached 1,000 in 2020 alone. Whereas, in 2018 and 2019, an equal number of people were killed by the police. In 2015, the number of killings was even higher than in 2020, i.e., 1,134. According to the finding, it is indicated that one out of every 65 deaths of an American African young man is a killing by the US Police. There was a major protest by the demonstrators in Chicago which turned even more chaotic in Baltimore. The protestors sat outside the police station in Minneapolis for several weeks.
The infographic below reveals different categories that were targeted by the US Police force. According to the chart, people deceased by the forces included a significant number of males and white. Around 13% of the US population belongs to the white race.
The number of males killed in 2020 is as high as 962, in addition, 432 white and 226 black people. Almost 62% of the total people assassinated by the police carried a gun themselves. However, nearly 100 people were unarmed or unknown if they carried any weapon or not. In 25 cases, the killed people had a toy weapon with themselves which was misunderstood as the real weapon. 194 people out of 1,000 deceased by the US police, were listed as disabled or mentally ill.
