Telegram is introducing a new feature of group voice chats. The
feature will not only be a part of regular text chats, but will be accessible
for bigger groups or live events as well.
The admin of a group chat can enable the voice chat option from the top of a group chat, where it is located, so anyone can join the conversation. Moreover, the feature will work for the desktop versions of Telegram for Windows and Mac as well. To use the feature for desktop, you can also use a push-to-talk key to control your microphone input.
Telegram has also designed a voice chat overlay for Android that works as a system-wide floating
widget. It allows you to see who’s talking or use
the microphone and mute options when Telegram is running in the background.
While the group voice chat feature is focused on audio for
now, Telegram says that it will be adding video and screen sharing features as
well, as soon as the coming weeks.
The company also revealed that it is about to reach 500
million users and plans to monetize its service with a user-friendly ad
platform designed for one-to-many public channels.
