China is a mass manufacturer for a lot of important stuff
including automobile. Almost one in every three cars are manufactured in China.
This means that 33 percent of the total population of cars is made in China
which is why the country holds a significance in the world.
India was also a part of a big car manufacturing chain as it
exhibited one of the biggest increases, almost 15 percent in five years to 3.6
million annually. It showed that a lot of Indian manufacturers were working to
make it happen. The biggest decrease in manufacturing of cars hit the US in
2014 all the way up to 2019. The US car industry lost a whopping 40 percent
loss of production of cars during this time period.
Other than China, Germany is also a big manufacturer of
cars. However, the German car manufacturing giants, Volkswagen, is part of the
Chinese production, technically making China a manufacturer in Germany. China dominated
the market in 2019 as it accounted for 39 percent of Volkswagen sales.
Shifting manufacturing sites are but one aspect of the car
industry's internationalization. Know-how often migrates with manufacturing,
with existing manufacturers entering into joint ventures with Chinese or other
Asian firms, usually involving technology transfer.
