Social media trends change every now and then which can have an effect on a platform's desirability. This year started off with the COVID-19 pandemic leaving millions under lockdown which sparked the use of video chatting apps, that now have scored top spots on the list of most downloaded apps.


Sensor Tower has recently released a list of the most popular non-gaming apps for this year.

Here Are This Year's Most Downloaded Apps

TikTok was the most non-game downloaded app all over the world for this year with over 111.9 million downloads, this has been a massive increase as compared to 2019. 20 percent of its installations come from India while the United States contributed to 9.3 percent of its downloads.

ZOOM stands on the second spot with 94.6 million downloads, a 43x boost compared to May 2019. Most installations come from the United States, followed by India. While Google Meet - another popular video chat app holds the 7th spot. This comes as no surprise as the pandemic has left people with no choice but to run businesses and connect with their loved ones online.

Facebook-owned app's WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram stand among the top six spots of the list. Meanwhile, YouTube and Snapchat hold the 9th and 10th spots on the list respectively.
