Electric cars aren't as new as you might think. In fact, the very earliest automobiles in the late 1800s were electric. They didn't move fast and they didn't have a very long range, though, which is why the typical gas burning engine took over. Not only did it take over, but it dominated for over a century.

In fact, it's still very much dominating today and will probably continue to dominate for many more years. There is a shining star of hope on the horizon, however. Electric vehicles have made a comeback, and this time, the cars are here to stay. Electric charging stations are popping up at shopping malls, electric cars are parked in driveways and being driven everywhere you look.
