Cyberbullying is a lot worse than the old days of playground bullying. For one thing it is more permanent, it can get out of control much faster, and it can grow much bigger. It can also have dire consequences - kids are often pushed to the breaking point by severe and unrelenting cyberbullying. Unfortunately the refrain is often tone deaf after such incidents - just turn off the computer or put down the phone and everything will be OK. Unfortunately cyberbullies can do real and lasting damage to a victim’s reputation that can have real and lasting consequences outside of the internet. And just turning off the computer or cell phone to escape isn’t an option - kids need it to do homework and projects and even stay connected with friends. Cyberbullying is a pervasive problem that is unique because of the new age of technology it depends on to happen. New technology requires a new solution.
