Is It Possible to Afford Rent Working Minimum Wage?
The current federally mandated minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 an hour, but there is a campaign going on called Fight for $15 that’s lobbying to more than double that number. Why? Because $7.25 is, flat out, inhumane. It turns out there isn’t a single state in America where a worker can afford even a one-bedroom apartment by putting in 40 hours a week while earning minimum wage. So the question becomes: Is what we have really a “living” wage, or just a survivable one?
