International Mining: Lithium

Did you know the demand for lithium is set to increase 22x by 2030? The reason for this drastic demand: lithium is powering more and more of the tools we use in our everyday lives. From our phones to electric cars, lithium ion batteries run our lives, and with more technology requiring them, lithium has become one of the most sought after minerals on the market. Chile is feeling the effects of this sharp increase in demand as they have the largest lithium reserves in the world. Australia is also being affected as they are currently the world's largest producer of lithium after it has been mined. The U.S holds just 3.6% of global lithium reserves, meaning in order to power many of our tools, we have to rely on the international mining industry. 


As more electric cars are produced in order to cut down carbon emissions, it is predicted that this demand will only increase as the years go on.
