While pregnancy is one of God’s greatest blessings, it is prescribed by every doctor to take immense care of yourself throughout your pregnancy. However, there are many women in the U.S.A. who, while being pregnant, goes for work. Initial months of pregnancy can be easier to handle, but later months are pretty critical. But, according to the studies, 80 percent of American women tend to work during their last month of pregnancy. On the one hand, a drastic increase in pregnant women working is noticed while, on the other hand, a vast number of ladies are keeping their pregnancies a secret from their boss and colleagues.
There are numerous reasons why many women hide their pregnancies; major ones include, they are afraid to get terminated, scared if their boss would reduce their working hours, resulting in lesser salary, fear of being judged, and much more. Several women started having insecurities regarding their job as soon as they got pregnant; hence, the federal government of America passed an order known as The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) made it illegal to make pregnancy a base of hiring, pay, firing, change in shift or work hours or any kind of promotions.
According to several surveys, it has been found that societal pressure on pregnant women has provoked them to hide their pregnancies during the initial months. However, many companies provide facilities such as work accommodation in the place of a pregnant lady during their critical months. Many women oppose work accommodation and go to the office until the last date of their pregnancy. While on the other hand, there are many women who request work accommodations and take leave in their final months.
Pregnant ladies hear a lot of things, both good and bad, during pregnancy, which creates a lot of pressure. Making unpleasant comments on a pregnant lady at work is widely common; however, the worst and most hurting ones include requesting to touch pregnant women’s baby bumps and unwanted pregnancy advice.
