The top three states with the largest amount of human trafficking cases are also the top three states with the largest populations: California, Texas, and Florida. California, with a population over 39 million, had 11,254 human trafficking victims from 2019 to 2023. There is a significant gap between first and second in the ranking, with a reported 7,369 victims in Texas over the span of five years out of a population of over 30 million. Florida is not far behind Texas, as there were a reported 6,904 victims out of a population of 22 million during this time.
Sex trafficking is largely thought of as only happening on foreign ground. In fact, many of the biggest consumers of sex trafficking come from developed nations. The average age of victims is between 12 and 14 and the average life expectancy of a female victim is 7 years with the top two killers being homicide and AIDS. Unfortunately this crime of trafficking humans isn't punished too harshly.
