The best way to combat this is to hold you wine bottle over a light source and slowly pour your wine into a decanter, not pouring harsh enough that the sediment slips out of the neck of the bottle. The light source will illuminate the wine through the glass and allow you to see the sediment better. Usually you are left with a small amount of wine at the bottom of your bottle that cannot be separated from the sediment, feel free to throw this leftover wine into your next cooking pot!
