Meta’s RayBan smart glasses are getting new updates including support for video calling and Apple Music, a new cat-eye frame style, and an official beta roll out of the multimodal AI assistant.

In addition to these, there are some new minor updates for the existing Wayfarer and Headliner models. Besides both the models getting new colors, the Headliner will also have a new low-bridge fit for people who struggle with their glasses slipping down their face.

The video call feature is gradually rolling out to everyone, and will enable the wearer to make video calls via WhatsApp and Messenger. The newly integrated support for Apple Music will allow the wearer to navigate Apple Music hands-free. With the glasses alone, you can handle functions like selecting songs to play, playing a playlist, station, or artist, as well as asking for recommendations based off of your listening history.

Lastly, Meta’s multimodal AI program that was first launched as early access back in December is coming to a wider audience – precisely all owners of the glasses in the US and Canada. The multimodal AI assistant is capable of capturing pictures with the glasses and providing enhanced context regarding the images. It can, for example, tell the wearer about a specific plant species, generate captions for images, translate signs written in a foreign language, etc.
