From a wooden contraption that had neither handlebars, pedals nor brakes to the incredible streamlined racing bikes of today - the humble bicycle has undergone quite a transformation. But it was not always easy riding! The not-so-smooth "Boneshaker" bicycle of the 19th century was followed by the dizzying heights of the iconic Penny Farthing - and this was before the invention of helmets!
