Many people perceive Americans as hard-working and productive. Qualtrics shows how accurate that impression is with a map ranking states by the percentage of time residents spent working last year.
The map can help us draw some interesting connections between the results and other facts about work in that state. For example, Utah residents spent the most time working (25.17% of their year) and have one of the lowest unemployment rates. Are Utah residents the most eager to work, or do they work extensively due to abundant job opportunities?
Unfortunately, in many states, low wages mean workers have no choice but to work longer hours. Mississippi, Alabama, South Dakota, and West Virginia all spent a higher-than-average amount of time working, but they also have some of the lowest wages in the country. The facts on the map introduce many interesting questions about the state of labor in America.
