Instagram Experiments with a New DM Engagement Feature: Notifications for New Posts - Visualistan -->

In an attempt to increase engagement across its app, Instagram is testing a new DM option that's been recently discovered by an app researcher. It seems like the option allows users to share their latest posts with their followers via DM.

While the company is trying out a new way for creators to share their latest updates and projects with people, that could lead to a lot of spam content on the downside. Perhaps if Instagram considers this consequence, it would also add an option to limit these notifications.

The initiative is altogether in alignment with the latest engagement behaviors on Instagram, considering that people use private chats more frequently to connect with each other, as compared to the main feed, which is now mostly just used to discover content.

Moreover, notifications that prompt users to check out an account’s recent updates, would likely lead to more time spent on the app. After all, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has taken the trend into account himself, revealing that “friends post a lot more to stories and send a lot more DMs than they post to Feed.”
