The history of the solar powered car goes back decades. Once just a futuristic pipe dream, scientists and inventors have since developed solar powered tech over the years into what we consumers can purchase today, full sized vehicles that have a range up to 190 miles (305 km). That is a far cry from the first model we see here on this timeline of solar powered vehicles from solarpower.guide, the 'Sunmobile' was the first solar powered car ever invented by General Motors however it was only a small toy model size. Many of the solar powered vehicles on this list look like they are straight out of a sci-fi movie but the newer models that are slated to come out this year and next like the Lightyear One from Atlas Technologies or the Sion solar car from Sono Motors, I could see being on the road. The two models have vastly different price points with the Lightyear One costing $170,000 and the Sion costing only $34,000.
