Six bot accounts mistakenly got “verified” blue ticks on Twitter

One of the largest social media platforms has thousands of verified accounts with even more verification applications pending. The company rolled out an improved verification process back in May 2021 which was designed exclusively to signify notable identities. Despite the “improved” process, Twitter’s verification system seems to be flawed.

Currently, the platform has been detected giving verified blue checkmarks to six bot accounts. These accounts are created less than a month ago with 977 follower accounts in common. In addition, the other 976 accounts according to the reports are created either on June 19th or June 20th, 2021.

Only a few of these accounts have tweeted anything however, the tweeted content is pretty similar and seems spam in Korean. This spam content is sent from an automation service dlvr(dot)it which promotes a website.

The profile picture on these accounts is either related to stocks or some AI-generated pictures. Considering everything, these accounts look fake or simply, not handles by a person or any business.

Twitter however deleted all those accounts along with confirming that these accounts were verified mistakenly. The company has also removed verification checkmarks from these accounts prior to the permanent suspension.
