How have the Covid-19 isolation increased loneliness

The previous year has indeed been a rollercoaster for the entire world’s population. With national lockdowns implied in almost every other country, disrupting economies and shattered educational systems, everything was going down the line. The Covid-19 restrictions also forced the people to stay in their homes until further notice.

Because of the restrictions, people who lived across the border, far away from their families were also prohibited to fly to their families. Though the entire world was in this together, thousands of people developed depression and started feeling lonely.

A survey was conducted by Stannah Stairlifts to determine the loneliness rate and how people dealt with and still dealing with it. the infographic below digs deeper into the survey and reveals that around 79.8 percent of the respondents felt lonely during the entire isolation period.
If we talk about generations, Gen X was seen to feel the “least lonely” as only 18.3 person respondents from that generation felt “very lonely”. On the other hand, more than half of the millennials and 47 percent of the Baby Boomers said that they would like to get jabbed against the Covid-19 in order to overcome the feeling of being lonely.

As mentioned in the infographic, people coped up with their isolation fatigue, and loneliness in several ways. Some watched their favorite movies or TV shows in order to stay entertained. Whereas, many opted for a healthier lifestyle and spent their time working out for fitness. And many relied on technology and spent most of their time on social media platforms to stay engaged.

Watching television was however the top strategy for respondents from all three generations to combat loneliness.
