The tech giant saw a phenomenal spike in sales after the launch of its 5G smartphones, which also pushed Apple to the top rank in the entire smartphone market worldwide.
As per the IDC estimates in the chart below, Apple shipped over 90 million smartphones during the last quarters, i.e., the final three months of 2020. The company has never shipped this huge amount of smartphones in a single quarter before. In the Q4 of 2019, Apple shipped around 73.8 million smartphones around the globe.
However, the competitor tech companies, including Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO, have also observed an increase in their smartphones' sales within the year. On the other hand, the fifth vendor, Huawei, has seen a decline in its overall sales of smartphones in the Q4 of 2020. The company shipped nearly 56.2 million smartphones in the final quarter of 2019, and unfortunately, by the Q4 of 2020, the number of shipments descended drastically to 32.3 million.
